What an incredible day for adventure guide Isaac! A moment where his group encountered a wolf that had come across a vehicle mirror and decided to have a new chew toy. After the wolf had left, Isaac grabbed the mirror and got to view the chew marks. What an experience for this lucky group! And not to mention, they got a three dog day with coyote pups and a close encounter with a fox!! These days are so special and we love sharing them with our groups!

šŸ¦¬ šŸ¦Œ Honoring Heroes and Cherishing Nature šŸ» šŸŗ

Today, as we honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we at Casanova Guided Tours want to take a moment to reflect on the beauty and serenity that they have helped to preserve.

Yellowstone National Park, with its stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of our nation. From the majestic bison roaming the plains to the awe-inspiring geysers, every corner of this park is a reminder of the natural treasures we hold dear.

On this Memorial Day, we invite you to join us in paying tribute to our fallen heroes by immersing yourself in the tranquility and wonder of Yellowstone. Whether youā€™re spotting a bear cub learning to navigate its world or listening to the songs of the native birds, take a moment to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy and the sacrifices that have made them possible.

Letā€™s honor their legacy by cherishing and protecting the natural beauty that defines our great nation. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

As impressive as this sighting was today of this big grizzly, Did you know sandhill cranes mate for life? These prehistoric birds have been around for 2 million years.
We had a great viewing of a grizzly that has been enjoying his frozen tv dinner for the past week but we were excited when he was joined by the marvelous Sandhill crane.

A female sandhill crane usually lays two pale-colored eggs with brown markings. She shares incubation duties with her mate for up to 32 days. Meet the best bird dads around.
We love sharing our knowledge of the animals in the park as well as many other facts about Yellowstone. Join us on your next trip to Yellowstone as we guide you on a Yellowstone adventure

We love having the ability to teach our customers about the animals and places that we see on a daily basis.
Did you know that the size of elkā€™s antlers depends on the amount of sunlight an elk gets? Sunlight causes a boost in testosterone causing the antlers to grow.
Bugling is the best-known form of communication but researchers have also found that elks anklebones make a distinct cracking or popping noise when they walk. This tells other elk that they are approaching.
The Shawnee name for elk is Wapiti. Elk are connected with love and music for many native Americans.
Strange but true, elk can count to 10!
ā€œFatal attractionā€ is a term given to a particular strange mating technique that some bulls use to woo female elk. They will dig a hole in the ground, fills it with his own itineraryā€¦ and bathed in it. How romantic!?
Weighing in at up to 700 pounds, the elk is the biggest deer species on earth. Even at that size, they can run up to 40 miles per hour and jump eight feet vertically.
Now, treat elk with respect.
-Keep your distance
-Do not imitate an elk bugle or call during mating season(or ever)
-Stay on roadways and designated trails. Never stop or block traffic. Drive slow.
-Keep pets secured on a leash and do not let them bark, lunge or chase elk.
-Do not feed elk!

We are excited for our 2023 adventure season! Book a tour today!

We are saddened by the events that took place, this week, in the northernmost section of Yellowstone National Park. It left an insurmountable path of destruction in many of our gateway communities as well as a few of our roads, inside the park, in the northern section.
Fortunately, Casanova Guided Tours were able to remain safe and move our operations, 100%, to West Yellowstone for the remainder of the season. We will continue to follow Yellowstone National Parkā€™s advisories and new forming guidelines as we all tread this uncharted water together.
Yellowstone will be implementing a reservation system, which will take place as soon as the park opens this coming Tuesday, June 21. Any tours booked through Casanova Guided Tours will include a reservation to the park, which is great news!
We would like to thank the outpour of love and support that we have received this week. It has made this trying time a little lessā€¦ trying. We will continue to share updates as we receive them, but we look forward to continuing to guide many of you on your Yellowstone Adventures.
As mentioned, at this time, Yellowstone will reopen with a reservation system in place on June 21st for the southern loop. It is the goal to open the upper loop in July. Lamar valley will need to be assessed to determine if there will be access allowed for any of the remainder of the season, but we remain hopeful.
There are many small businesses, like ours, that rely heavily on the summer months to run their operations. There are ways that we can still help them. If you can, still make a trip to Gardiner, Montana. Though you cannot access the interior of the park from there, it is an amazing community and a wonderful area to spend time at. Red Lodge is still currently under water and will hurt tremendously from this. Take time to visit, if you are able, and stop in the small businesses that are in that community. There were families that lost their home in the Yellowstone River. They had to witness it float away with pieces of their lives inside of it. There are GoFundMe accounts set up for those individuals. Other companies have merchandise you can order, gift cards you can purchase, etc.

Lastly, for those that have altered their plans and are looking for lodging near the West entrance in West Yellowstone, we partner with Sawtelle Mountain Resort and have other great recommendations as to lodging locations. Let us know how we can help with that process.

Patienceā€¦ for both the group and this great blue heron, paid off in the end.

Great blue herons are excellent fishers. These birds can be spotted around shorelines and in shallow marshes, either slowly wading through the water or waiting patiently for their prey.

Once their next meal is spotted, they will stretch out their long neck and freeze in place. When the moment is right, they strike with their blade-like bill.

Did you know this about grizzlies?
They are also known as browns bears.

Bears Diet Consists of About 90% Vegetarian - When most people think of grizzly bears, they assume they are strictly carnivores. With those teeth and that snarl, they sure can be a threatening predator to some. Surprisingly enough, grizzly bears arenā€™t carnivores, but omnivores, eating a mix of plants and animals.

Grizzly Bears Can Live to Be 25 Years Old(grizzly 399 was born in 1996 and has denned this winter with her 4 yearling cubs) -
The oldest bear reported recently was estimated at 34 years old. Typically, however, bears live to be 15 ā€“ 25 years old in the wild. Thatā€™s if they donā€™t find an early end at the hands of humans or climate change.

Grizzly Bears Have a Better Sense of Smell Than Bloodhounds! Even the average dog can smell about 100 times better than a human, and bloodhounds hold the title for the best sniffer in the canine species. It may blow your mind to know that a bearā€™s sense of smell outperforms the bloodhoundā€™s by seven times, which means a bearsā€™ sense of smell is 2,100 times superior to a humanā€™s!
They can outrun the fastest man on the planet! The bears we see in fiction or lazing about in the wild tend to look cumbersome and slow, as most anything weighing nearly a half-ton would. But in a land race, even Olympic champions would be on the losing end. Grizzlies can reportedly run 35 mph, and sustain speeds of up to 28 mph for two miles, faster than Usain Boltā€™s 27.78 miles per hour stride (which he can only sustain for a few seconds).
So when we say to stay AT LEAST 100 yards away from bears, there is a reason!

Millions of visitors come to Yellowstone, every year, to try to see a grizzly bear.
If you are planning a trip, let our trained and knowledgeable guides give you a better chance at seeing these beloved wild creatures.

They donā€™t hunt for sport. They donā€™t stalk you in the night. They donā€™t attack without cause. They donā€™t waste the meat that they have risked their lives to get. They ARE misunderstood. Wolves, if viewed with an open mind and without politics, are so incredibly fascinating and more like humans than most realize.

Once a wolf has found a mate, they tend to stay together for better or worse, through sickness and health, often u til death due them part.

In addition to a trend toward monogamy, wolves develop such strong bonds for their family and other loved ones, they have been known to sacrifice themselves for the survival of the pack / family unit.

Wolves will have babysitters to care and watch over the pups as members of the pack go in hunts. Older Brothers and sisters tend to their smaller and younger siblings as they learn how to raise young ones of their own someday.

We have come to hate an animal that, beyond looks, so deeply resembles us, it is startling. 20% of the Yellowstone wolves have been killed by hunters this hunting season, and itā€™s not over.. in the blink of an eye, the work of reintroducing wolves into the GYE can come to an end. We must be their voices when they can not howl loud enough.

Did you know..
The size of an elkā€™s antlers depends on the amount of sunlight the elk gets; sunlight causes a boost in testosterone levels, causing the antlers to grow. They can weigh as much as 40 pounds in a full grown male and grow about an inch a day!

Because of its unique timber and volume (you can hear it from miles away), bugling is the best-known form of elk communication. But itā€™s only one of the ways that these animals engage with one another. Researchers have found that elksā€™ anklebones make distinct cracking or popping noises when they walk. We think elk use this sound (at least in part) to tell other elk that theyā€™re approaching them from behind.

The Shawnee name for elk is wapiti, which means ā€œwhite rump.ā€ Elk are connected with love and music for many Native Americans, and a well-known tribe legend credits elk with the creation of the first flute.

Strange, but true: Elk can count to 10. How do we know? Scientists have noticed that when a female elk is presented with the choice between a mate with nine antler points and 10 antler points, sheā€™ll almost always select the bull with 10 points. Sheā€™s paying attentionā€¦

During the rut, cows and calves form harems with one or two mature bulls.

Weighing in at up to 700 pounds, the North American elk stands as one of the biggest deer species on earth. But donā€™t think that just because an elk is large that itā€™s slow. A mature bull can run as fast as 40 miles per hour ā€“ theyā€™ve even been able to outrun horses in short races. And thatā€™s not all. Elk can jump eight feet vertically.

Elk are also a top prey for wolves but on the opposite side, elk are commonly known to strike a fatal blow with a swift kick to wolves. They can also impale a wolf with their antlers. There is a reason we say ā€œstay at least 25 yards backā€. If itā€™s a human vs an elk, the elk will win.

Are you traveling to Yellowstone and looking for not only a guided tour but an opportunity to learn as you go? Let us guide you through the beautiful park with magnitudes of amazing creatures, such as Elk.
