I’m always down for sharing unique experiences with my family. If you’re also someone who cherishes experiences over material things, you owe it to yourself to make it a point to make it to Discovery Cove!

Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive day resort that offers swimming in fresh and salt water, animal encounters such as birds, stingrays, sharks, and dolphins, and of course unlimited food and beverages (including beer and wine). And before you come for me, it’s AZA accredited and they’re known to take great care of their animals!

There is definitely something for everyone in this incredibly unique park!

We recently came back from a Med cruise where we went to Venice 🇮🇹, Split 🇭🇷, Mykonos 🇬🇷, Kuşadasi 🇹🇷, Santorini 🇬🇷, and Athens 🇬🇷.

I booked all of our tours through Viator, rather than through the ship. This ensured we got the exact experiences we wanted, and in the case of all of our shore excursions, they were all private!

If you’ve been following along on our Mediterranean cruise journey, you’ll know that we absolutely loved it. We had fun and ate great food at each port. But how was the cruise itself!?

We set sail on Royal Caribbean International’s Explorer of the Seas. Built in 2000, she is an old lady in terms of cruise ships, but still manages to maintain a 4.5/5 rating on Cruise Critic.

Where this ship excels is guest service. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and very helpful. Our waiter and assistant in the main dining room were absolutely phenomenal with our kids, as were the staff members on the sports deck (where my kids spent most of their time)!

Although Explorer doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of the Oasis or Icon class ships, there was still plenty do to onboard to entertain us (the adults) and our children (6 and 10). In fact, we were so occupied by our long days in port and trying to fit in activities on the ship, I realized yesterday that I got basically no pictures of the ship itself. Our time onboard was mostly filled with relaxing in our room (I have an obsession with just chilling on the balcony, looking at the ocean and enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine) and hanging out on the sports and pool decks.

The food was also pretty solid! From the Windjammer (Royal’s bufffet restaurant) to the Main Dining Room, and especially the specialty dining (we tried Chops, the steakhouse and Izumi, the Japanese restaurant), we enjoyed each meal onboard.

I have held the opinion that when your itinerary is very port heavy, which ours was, the ship itself does not matter as much. Of course you still need a clean ship, good food, a variety of entertainment, and good customer service. All of which this ship has.

Long story short, we were not disappointed in any way by our time on Explorer of the Seas.
