🤔Have you ever wondered how hot air balloons steer❓

It’s not quite as simple as just turning a steering wheel.

🎈 Balloon pilots rely completely on the wind to navigate.

This is accomplished due to the wind varying in speed and direction at different altitudes. That means that in order to adjust their flight path left or right they must also adjust their altitude. They are also limited on the amount of turn based off of the different winds available for the flight window. That means balloon pilots extensively study the weather and winds prior to a flight to make sure they pick the most suitable take off location.

It’s time!!! Pilots are meeting at 05:15 this morning at BREC's Zachary Community Parkto check the weather. From there with favorable weather they will determine a launch location for their flight. Be sure to be looking up this morning!

We can’t wait to see everyone Saturday at the Zachary Really Hot Air Balloon Festival.

‼️Plus don’t forget the Washington Parish Balloon Festival Queens from the Washington Parish Balloon Festival will be on site from 5:00pm-5:30pm answering questions and taking pictures. You do not want to miss this opportunity to meet these amazing young ladies. Be sure to bring out those little princesses to get their picture with the queens

We have an exciting opportunity for you! Downtown Live at The Gazebo will be raffling off the chance to win a flight for two! Only $10.00 a ticket for a chance to win. We have posted the QR code for Venmo, Paypal and Cashapp. When sending your payment be sure to include your full name and cell phone number in the memo or comment section (this will be written on your ticket). Once your payment has been received you will receive a message with a picture of your ticket, so you will have confirmation and your ticket number. Tickets will also be on sale all day at the festival. They will be located at the festival t-shirt tent and the tether ticket table. Live drawing will be done on the stage during the bands break. Winner will not need to be present to win! *Downtown live at the Gazebo is a nonprofit organization to bring the community together with free concerts and the balloon festival!!!

Last but not least, today is our final pilot, Chad Hebert!!! He is also one of the two local pilots of Zachary, that most of you are used to seeing on the weekends! Chad is also the man behind the scenes planning and bringing all the other hot air balloons to Zachary. Without him our festival wouldn't have balloons! You will see him flying over Zachary in his balloon Marilyn this year! Make sure to stop bye and say Hello!

Today’s pilot is Miss Karen Kent from Port Allen, LA and she will be coming with her fleet of balloons! It’s always a surprise when she shows up because you never know what she’s pulling out the trailer and it starts filling up with air!! So your guess will be as good as mine if we will see Karen’s Dream II, Louisiana Bayou Dream or Rising Dream?!? Guess we will have to wait and see on August 10th!

Next up we have one of Zachary’s very own pilots Mr. Shawn Krause. You’ll see him out this year with his balloon Really?!?. Most of you around Zachary are use to seeing the Purple/Yellow balloon of his always flying around town, so this will be a nice treat. A fun fact over the weekend of July 13th, Shawn was in Shreveport/Bossier City, LA, at the CenterPoint Energy Red River Balloon Rally, where he won the 2024 Louisiana Hot Air Balloon State Championship!! If you see him make sure you tell him congratulations 🍾!!!
