We just spent an exceptional 3 days !!! The location is a short drive out of Boone to this gorgeous location! Sky Barn has everything you can imagine to a fully equipped kitchen, awesome game room, comfortable bedrooms, large living and dining areas. Not to mention the huge covered deck, hammocks and fire pit. Games of all sorts, books & magazines to curl up with.
We ate our way through the weekend. The grill cooks up some amazing steaks and double cut pork chops compliments of my husband, David, the Grillmaster.
Spring is just around the corner at this elevation so check it out for a relaxing getaway!! We look forward to going back!

What a week! We had an amazing spring break exploring the High Country. We packed in fishing, a ride on the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster, hikes on the neighborhood trails and a fun night out in downtown Boone.

Spring is finally taking shape as this Yaku Princess Rhododendron blooms. Get up to the NC mountains and enjoy this wonderful time of year.
The basement game room is coming along! Our newest addition is this 3-in-1 ping pong/air hockey/poker table. Perfect for a family or friends’ game night after a long day of hiking or exploring nearby towns .
It’s ramp season in southern Appalachia and that means a delicious age old delicacy will be sprouting up across the North Carolina highlands. Some call ‘em wood leeks or wild garlic, but most refer to this tasty treat simply as ramps (Allium tricoccum).
There’s plenty to harvest around the SkyBarn and we’re doing just that. Chefs flock from all over to gather this bunny-eared edible just in time for Easter. We’re no chef, but we do know plenty of classic ramp recipes. Last nights dinner included fresh local farm-to-table steaks from Shipley Farms finished off with ramp compound butter.

Virginia Tech researchers are working with the U.S. Forest Service to find the best growing methods for ramps to allow the delicacy to last far into the future.
In the mountains again this weekend to work on the basement and freshen up the house to prepare for hosting guests again this spring.
Finally made it by The Local Lion for a latte. I somehow resisted the homemade donuts (though I may be making a stop on the way out of town!).
