The island of Mayreau is on the rise after hurricane Beryl. The bays are clean of debris and natural environment is rebounding. Very interesting considering there are fewer goats on the islands the small bushes and grass are growing quick. The island is inundated with butterflies 🦋 As always we have someone following us around 🐕🐕

Quick stop for a coffee with Iwona and Antonio in Chatham Bay, the area which was most affected by hurricane Beryl. They are working very hard on rebuilding Tenuta. We are admiring their dedication and resilience. So looking forward to seating in the Tenuta’s new bar with views over the bay and stuffing ourselves with best pizza in the Caribbean.

Yesterday we said goodbye to Trynidad. Tons of work has been done on Groovy. This year it was mostly mechanical upgrades. We have done major refits on both engines and put new SD60 gearboxes. The boat launch after such major jobs being done is always bit hectic but exciting. However the captain disappointed the spectators and save the day after realising that our controllers had been wired wrong way around .. forward became the new reverse. Keep cool captain it’s a boat!😜

The trip to the Grenadinnes was tough. To see places we love destroyed. Friends loose their homes and businesses…We arrived to Mayreau on Friday morning and were fortunate to have the French military assist us to unload the relief supplies we had brought, by the time we had to head back on Saturday afternoon we already noticed change in the people. Help is coming that gives hope for rebuild. Thanks to everyone for your messages and love for Grenadinnes. We are flat out busy as Groovy is coming out of the water tomorrow. However we are closely following news from affected islands and will inform about rebuilding projects and support possibilities. Special thanks to our lovely Canadian/ South African guests/ friends who sponsored Groovy’ s fuelling for the trip and to Operation Cruisers Aid in Trinidad for their help and support.

UPDATE from Mayreau everyone is alive. One person injured by a tin roof. Salt Whistle bay all the bars gone. Black Boy’s boat gone. Roofs in the village all gone. Kamran will have Starlink going in few houers and we should recive more updates.

This is first info from Union Island, 80% of roofs gone, boats which were in Clifton ended up on the top of houses. It’s hard for us the recognise the places. The Island is devastated. Communication only via satelite. There is no raports about any loss of life so far and let’s hope it stays that way. Got in touch with Iwona from Tenuta Chatham Bay unfortunately bar/ restaurant are gone. Still no news from Mayreau except quick world from Kamran he is alive. Everyone is very shaken, shocked and terrified with what happened. It’s going to be very difficult night.

UPDATE: Groovy arrived to Trynidad safely, Trynidad is expecting tropical storm conditions not hurricane.

Dear Groovy fans, as many of you already know there is a major hurricane heading towards Windwards Islands ( St.Vincent, Grenada) predicted to hit with unprecedented strength on Monday. We would like to inform all people who are concerned about our safety that we are on our way to Trynidad where we are expecting the conditions to be much more favourable.
You might hear som terrified media news in the next days. Please be aware that we might be out of touch due to the infrastructure damage. Thank you for all the messages and good thoughts. Monika & Steve, The Groovy Crew.
