Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens in the Eastern Caribbean: Hurricane Beryl
The U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean alerts U.S. citizens that a Hurricane Warning has been posted for Barbados. A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the islands of Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Dominica, Martinique, and Tobago.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Beryl is currently a hurricane. At 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, Beryl is moving toward the west near 22 mph. Beryl is expected to become a major hurricane before it reaches the Windward Islands. The center of Beryl is expected to be near the Windward Islands late Sunday night and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea on Monday. Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next few days.
