The amazing world under the waves.

One of the underwater mysteries that once puzzled experts was the discovery of strange drawings in the sand with almost perfect circular patterns found on the seabed off Japan. It took them a decade to find out why they originated and why they suddenly appeared and disappeared until they finally managed to discover it. The author of these amazing formations, almost 2 meters wide, was a newly discovered species of puffer fish measuring no more than 12 centimeters. Subsequent studies determined that they were ornate circles to attract mating partners. Males spend six weeks building these "crop circles" underwater just to mate for a few seconds. To make them, he gathers fine sand in mounds and decorates them with seashells he finds. If he is lucky, the willing female will stand in the center of the circle to indicate approval for mating. If not, the ocean current will carry away his work of art.
Nature will never cease to fascinate us.

We have taken many of you to Anegada and seen the pink Flamingos in the distance.

I found this information on Flamingos so interesting.

Enjoy.

The Owl Rescue center is in South Africa but Flamingos are Flamingos. This poor character had broken a wing and is being treated.

Interesting facts about these birds.. Let's see. The word flamingo comes from the latin word for flame.
Food consists mostly of shrimp, algae and plant material. They feed by placing their beak in the water, sucking hard and then squeezing the water out, anything solid left behind is the good stuff. What is pretty cool is how long they live. Up to around 60 years old.
There was one in an Australian zoo who lived there for 83 years before they euthanased him because of complications due to old age. He was an adult when he arrived at the zoo, so anyone's guess how old he really was.
They are highly gregarious and will only breed if there are large numbers. They do this big group song and dance which signals the start of their breeding season. They're nicknamed the Honking goose because of the sound they make.
And finally, I know this will probably make you laugh a little. They choose a new breeding partner every season. Which equates to around 60 new partners in their life, with roughly the same amount of mother-in-laws😉

These are a few of our favorite things. BVI at its best! The Willy T. They say you cannot say you have been to BVI until you jumped off the Willy T. So what is the Willy T? Oddly enough, the real William Thornton is the subject of no pirate folklore. He was an architect born on Jost Van Dyke, a Scottish-educated physician credited with the design of the USA Capitol Building. He was no doubt, a stand-up guy. The William Thornton–Famous, infamous, take it as you find it. The William Thornton is the floating pirate-themed bar and restaurant moored offshore at the Bight, Norman Island. Pirate flags are not uncommon as ensigns in businesses in the BVI. The fact that the deep anchorage off Norman Island was actually used to shelter real pirate ships highlights the Willy-T with an authenticated pirate yell. Which makes you wonder when pirates needed a drink or six, maybe a bite to eat, followed by a wild night, between dubious passages, if the Willy-T would be the perfect place to get this fix. Meet Tito Tito was found as a tiny croc in the village. The villagers brought him up as a pet. He walked around with them on a leash like a dog until…….. he started eating dogs, cats and other village free roaming critters. He was then moved to his own special area on Coiba Island National Park. He swims free doing his own thing. When the rangers call his name he comes running to see who’s calling.
