Happy New Year to all who read this post!

I want to thank my wonderful staff for making A Dream Come True Villa the best villa on Virgin Gorda! This includes Kitty and Miriam (Housekeeping), Anna (Villa Manager and Guest Liaison), Joffre, (Maintenance), Hendrick (Pool), Lydia and Sweet Eyes (Landscaping), and Simon of Yates Construction (miscellaneous repairs and updates to the villa). My guests tell me what I already know: Everything is simply perfect for their Virgin Gorda vacations. This makes me happy because I am miles away when guests stay at ADCT, and I rely on my splendid team to meet my high expectations and solve any problems that might crop up. Kudos to all!

2021 was a difficult year for all of us, for a myriad of reasons. I am looking forward to a better time in 2022. Please stay healthy, be vaccinated, and wear your mask to help the medical personnel who are on the front lines of the Covid battle. These actions can also make it possible for you to travel.

Between April to December, I’ve flown a total of sixteen flights on Jet Blue, Delta, American, Cape Air, Inter-Caribbean, Silver Airways, and charter flights to VG with Island Birds. I loved my travels to VG and reconnecting with relatives and friends around the U.S. Best of all, I managed to stay Covid free even though I am in a high-risk category. What a blessing!

A warm hello to everyone who loves A Dream Come True Villa! I hope all of your families are healthy! This post will detail the current rules for entering the BVI plus other news.

1. The Virgin Gorda airport opened a week ago! This makes travel to this island so convenient. Multiple airlines – plus charter flights – offer you a variety of prices and services. I departed Boston at 8:45 am and arrived in Virgin Gorda at 3:30. (Remember that there is a one-hour time difference between EST and the BVI during daylight saving time.) I'm always available to assist you with making your travel plans.

2. If everyone in your vacationing group is fully vaccinated: You have a Rapid Test done in the U.S. within 48 hours of your arrival in the BVI. There is no BVI Portal/Gateway to complete any more, just the Hummingbird site where you announce that you intend to arrive on a certain date, where you plan to arrive, and time of arrival and flight information. No testing upon arrival and no quarantine required.

This is my third trip to Virgin Gorda in 2021. Every trip becomes easier. For the first time since we built the villa, my husband and I were able to spend eight weeks in our paradise. That surely is the definition of joy!

The villa is fully booked through the end of April 2022. Two Christmas Weeks in 2022 are available. Thanksgiving 2022 is booked. Oil Nut Bay Resort and Little Dix Resort are doing well and welcome my guests for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. All three properties mentioned have gorgeous spas available to you! The Bitter End Resort is not quite open; they are aiming for a December 2021 or January 2022 opening date.

Eager travelers, I have more great news to report on the easing of the BVI entrance protocols. After May 15, if you are fully vaccinated, you have a PCR test prior to arrival. Upon arrival in the BVI, you have another PCR test, and when you receive back the negative results (within 12-24 hours), you are out of quarantine!

This is a wonderful time to plan your next vacation to Virgin Gorda. There is much pent-up desire for travel, and I can help you accomplish what was an impossible dream just a few months ago!

Three cheers and let’s have a toast with a Painkiller! The BVI reported today that starting MAY 15, 2021, overseas visitors with proof that they are fully vaccinated will only need a negative PCR test before arrival and then one upon arrival in the BVI. Once the test result comes through, usually the next day, there is NO further quarantine required! This easing of Covid-related protocols is welcome indeed!

Welcome Back to A Dream Come True Villa! We earned Gold Seal Status!

I have not posted here for a l-o-n-g time because the British Virgin Islands were closed to visitors until December 1, 2020, and this will be a lengthy post chock full of information. However, many potential guests are receiving their Covid vaccines, as well as many residents of the BVI, so now is a great time to return for that fabulous Virgin Gorda vacation for which you’ve been longing!

In December 2020, A Dream Come True Villa earned “GOLD SEAL CERTIFICATION” from the BVI Government for cleanliness and Covid-prevention strategies. All of my employees and service providers took the specialized training. Plan a trip, and I will help you navigate all the little details!

ARRIVAL PROCESS

When you do come, at least 48 hours before arrival, you need to complete the Portal Protocols online at:(https://bvigateway.bviaa.com) and have proof of a negative PCR test done a few days before departure. If you do these, you are authorized to enter the country at the Tortola airport (EIS) and have a PCR test done there. (At this time, the Tortola airport is the only Port of Entry; this surely will change as the year progresses). Upon arrival, after your PCR test is completed at the airport, the BVI Government will transport you by water taxi – at their expense – from Trellis Bay ferry dock to Virgin Gorda. Once there, a taxi paid for by the BVI Government will bring you to your GOLD SEAL accommodations. You need to quarantine until Day 4, at which time a taxi paid for by the Government will bring you to the VG Clinic for another PCR test. After this test result is done, you are free to roam the BVI. At the end of your vacation, you are allowed to take local ferries back to Tortola, or have a water taxi return you to St. Thomas (STT).

QUARANTINING at A DREAM COME TRUE

During your quarantine days at A Dream Come True, you can enjoy the lovely grounds of the villa and the gorgeous horizon pool. At our seaside recreation area, relax under the queen-size daybed under the pavilion. You can swim, snorkel, and kayak in Pond Bay and go to Pond Bay Beach in any of the above ways. Some of the best snorkeling on Virgin Gorda will be available to you!

Praise the Lord! My prayers are answered, and the British Virgin Islands will be open to visitors starting December 1, 2020! It's been three months since I last posted on Facebook with an update.

It’s been extremely difficult to have the islands closed since mid-March. It necessitated the laying off several of my valued employees. I hope to rehire them soon. I refunded 100% of all of my villa bookings for March through November.

But the great news is that you can now plan your long-awaited vacation to the gorgeous BVI! And to top it off, you can visit old favorites such as Saba Rock and Little Dix Bay. All of your favorite restaurants will be open to serve you. I’ve been told that many restaurants have made improvements during this time period, and I look forward to checking them out on my upcoming trip to A Dream Come True Villa.

Welcome to A Dream Come True Villa! Many former guests are asking me about Virgin Gorda’s response to COVID-19, and if they can make future reservations at this time. The British Virgin Islands handled the virus efficiently and effectively by closing their borders mid-March and putting in place a successful two-week quarantine. Only eight cases were identified, and all of the British Virgin Islands are currently virus free. Until September 1, only BVI Belongers and Residents are permitted entry, and they must quarantine for 14 days to keep the country virus free.

Since March, my Head Housekeeper, Kitty, has been working at the villa on a part-time basis to keep everything in excellent condition. Likewise, the landscaping company and pool service continue to come twice a week. Our property never looked better!

We just returned from three weeks at A Dream Come True; every fall we prepare the villa for high season. Now that everything is back to normal at the house, I could finally fulfill one of my longtime dreams: a queen-size daybed at the water's edge! We’re used to buying car and home insurance, and many of you might choose airline insurance on your ticket in case you need to change your flights, or do you? I want you to consider Trip Insurance that covers just about everything that might happen on a trip so you can relax when planning a vacation. If you are leaving elderly parents at home, this may also apply to you. I always purchase comprehensive trip insurance, and I encourage my renters to do the same.

Because large groups often rent A Dream Come True Villa, I wanted to share the fact that people who travel on the same itinerary with a group of ten or more should consider purchasing a group insurance plan. A Dream Come True reopened after Hurricane Irma in July 2019, beautifully renovated and refurnished! However, one major task remained: the removal and replacement of all of the concrete roof tiles. We were able to postpone this task because we had sufficient tiles stored under the house to patch the twenty-three holes made by the hurricane, but that was just a stop-gap measure. The entire roof system needed replacing.

We decided to select Energy Star-rated tiles this time, and that meant choosing a new color! The new cream and peach roof tiles look splendid with the cream paint of the villa. The soffit board across the bottom of the roof edge is a rosy-rust color which coordinates very well. The Bali Guest House will be completed this week. The main Caribe House will be done during the month of July. In between, we have guests all four weeks of June, so they will see our green roof on one side and the new roof on the other. I can’t wait to come down and see the transformation!

There is lots of progress happening all around Virgin Gorda:
• Cape Air is flying from San Juan into Virgin Gorda’s beautiful airport again.
• The Bitter End Yacht Club plans to open its restaurant, beach, and water sports area this fall.
• Saba Rock’s rebuilding is well under way and might be completed by the end of 2019.
• Little Dix Bay Resort announced they will open for business in December 2019.
• The Rock Café should be opening soon.

Dear Facebook Friends of A Dream Come True Villa,

Please sign the petition asking The Honorable Orlando Smith, Premier of The British Virgin Islands, to outlaw the hunting of sea turtles in the BVI. I am shocked by this practice and admit that I did not realize there is a hunt from December 1 - March 31 for these defenseless and endangered creatures every year. They are protected for good reason in other places around the globe. They are not needed as a food supply for any group in the British Virgin Islands. I hope you will join me in petitioning for a change in this law.

My husband and I are enormously grateful for where we stand in 2019 compared to January 2018. 52 weeks ago, we had a destroyed villa with forty-two blown out windows, no insurance money, and no idea how to move forward. With faith in the future, we did. After fourteen trips to Virgin Gorda, we opened our villa for business in July. Along the way, we shared in the regeneration of the island of Virgin Gorda, whose people are among the most resilient I have ever met in my life.
