Have you looked at the BVI Now app recently? There are lots more featured articles and other good stuff. If you check out the feature titled, “Yo-Ho-Ho and a bottle of rum…” there’s more to it than you see on the surface. As you move around the BVI (assuming you have notifications turned on), your phone will ping when you’re near to a place with an interesting pirate past.

If you’re at Long Bay on Beef Island, you’ll be pinged with a notification that there’s an interesting story about the widow who poisoned the pirates who lived across the water. If you want to learn more, you touch the notification and the app takes you to the story of widow George and how she killed a band of pirates who were stealing her cows. There are more than two dozen places like this scattered around the Territory – places where the app will tell you stories of pirate lore. These are the stories of the notorious Blackbeard, Black Sam Bellamy, and the REAL pirates of the Caribbean!

Over here BVI NEWBIE, we always wanted to do an App.....and then BOOM.....BVI Now happened! Officially launching today, in partnership with the BVI Tourist Board - BVI Now is free to users. It's really cool because it works without a cell or data connection and contains hundreds of verified locations on a map that works(!) and correct contact details for businesses and things to do.

This App is for everyone - visitors and residents of the BVI alike. We've been playing with it and it's like second nature.......

Puerto Rico, Vieques and the Virgin Islands are under alert, with hurricane conditions expected as the storm passes through that area. Dorian is currently crossing over St. Thomas, the National Hurricane Center says in its 2 p.m. ET update on the storm. Gusts recorded at 111mph near St Thomas.
