In the days leading up to the annual Folklfe Festival, which celebrates Black History Month, we would like to highlight some of the local culture bearers. Today we feature Mr Justin Todman. Mr Todman learned the craft of making palm brooms at the age of six from his father, the original broom man. Together, they would sell brooms at carnival food fairs and other festivals. Mr Todman has now been making brooms for over 60 years. He is a member of a dedicated few who are determined to preserve the culture of the Virgin Islands. Look for Mr Todamn at the festival as he demonstrates the process of making a broom!
