Within the framework of the first cultural festival of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people, Lai Chau province organized a performance activity, introducing excerpts of the Ngo Festival of the Cong ethnic people in Nam Khao commune, Muong Te district.

Ngo Tet is celebrated by the Cong people in Lai Chau in the 6th lunar month every year when the rainy season begins.

The offerings for the Ngo New Year were contributed by the villagers together, including pork, chicken, corn rice, corn cakes, wild mushrooms, boiled squash and crab.

The Cong people believe that crabs are animals that protect crops. When corn seeds are planted in the ground and sprout, birds, mice, and squirrels come to destroy them. The crab will use its two claws to chase them away.

According to shaman Chang Van San, no one knows when the Ngo Festival began and they only know that this ritual has been passed down from generation to generation. This is an opportunity for the Cong people to report to their ancestors about what they have done during the year. Thank our ancestors for blessing our children and grandchildren with good health, favorable livestock farming and production, lush crops, and full houses with rice and corn.

After the ceremony ends, the homeowner thanks the shaman and the shaman prays to the ancestors and gods for blessings.

After performing the ritual, young and old, girls and boys in the village together perform the animal-chasing dance. They spread their arms wide and dance around the festival grounds to chase birds, wild animals, and ghosts out of the village and fields, increasing the effectiveness of the ritual they just performed...

Besides spiritual values, the Cong people's Ngo Tet also brings unique traditional cultural features of the ethnic group, expressed through costumes, cuisine, arts, folk games...

Restoring the Corn Festival at the space of the first Cultural Festival of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people has brought visitors excitement, experience, and joyful ethnic dances.

This classic ‘𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐟 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐟 - 𝐁𝐨̀ 𝐧𝐮̛𝐨̛́𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚́ 𝐥𝐨̂́𝐭’ dish is one of the best things on the planet.
"Bo nuong la lot" comes from the south of Vietnam. Though, before that it came from India. And before that it came from the Middle East. Here’s how: for a long time, cooks in the Middle East have had a custom of rolling spiced meat, rice and other vegetables in vine leaves, for a snack known as dolma. When Middle Eastern traders began arriving in the Bengal region of India around the ninth century, that custom was passed on to local cooks, who in turn began trading in South-East Asia, and once again the technique was passed along. Grape vines don’t grow so well in Vietnam, so locals there replaced those leaves with la lot.

𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 – 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦

Hue is where salted coffee first appeared. But because of its unique flavor, this coffee has slowly begun to become available in several places from the North to the South, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞
People typically associate coffee with a bitter flavor when they think about it. To create various unique flavors, there are, however, an increasing number of ways to make coffee as it grows in popularity over time. The amount of sugar, condensed milk, or even salt used as a flavoring can affect how bitter the coffee becomes and how delicious it is.

Salted coffee is just regular coffee with salt added, as the name could very well imply. The flavor, however, is not as extremely common as how it is made. The addition of salt will increase the release of sodium ions, enhance the visual appeal, and improve the flavor of the coffee.

Compared to other spices like sugar, milk, fresh cream, etc., adding salt to coffee will assist more effectively in balancing the bitter flavor. When drinking salted coffee, the salty flavor will trick your tongue’s taste buds into making you forget the bitterness.

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞
Salt coffee in the world

Coffee with salt has been consumed all over the world for a long time. Records, however, show that salted coffee has a wide variety of sources. As a reason, it is very challenging to determine the original birthplace of this coffee.

People from Siberia, Turkey, Northern Scandinavia, and Hungary say that salted coffee has long been a part of their cultures. In some coastal regions, brackish water is also used in their method of making salty coffee and is directly cooked and combined.
The US ocean fleets developed a method to reduce/separate salt in seawater to create fresh water for drinking during World War II when they were continuously on duty. They were forced to accept seawater that was still slightly salinity at the time due to technological restrictions that prevented the seawater from being entirely desalted.

The taste of the coffee changed in a pretty refreshing way when sailors used that water to brew it. They learn about salted coffee in this way.

𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲
The mistake has become a common drink.

An aspiring fisherman marries. As a newlywed, his young wife mistakenly used salt in place of sugar when serving him coffee. He made a big deal about how good his coffee was with salt since he didn’t want to annoy his new wife. She was shocked but overjoyed that her error had caused her spouse such happiness. She gave him coffee with salt every day of their lengthy and wonderful marriage as a result. He came to adore the salt coffee and never once voiced any complaints. It made him think of the ocean and his time spent fishing.

There is a lot of story behind salt coffee but almost all of them is a love story and they all made because of mistake. Salted coffee is a drink that is both familiar and strange, but behind that cup of coffee is a warm love. Maybe there is a similar to love and salt coffee – A love story is almost like a cup of salted coffee, bringing an unforgettable feeling once experienced.

You can buy this special coffee from everwhere, from roadside vendor carts to luxury bars/cafes.

19/09/2023

Congratulations to Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago recognized as world natural heritage.
Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago in the northern province of Quang Ninh province and neighbouring Hai Phong City has been officially recognized as a world natural heritage.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the new inscription of the Vietnamese site to the list at the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.

Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago is Vietnam's first inter-provincial UNESCO-listed world heritage site.

Cat Ba Archipelago in the northern port city of Hai Phong is the largest limestone archipelago in the country. It includes over 360 islands, including Cat Ba Island to the south of Ha Long Bay.

The archipelago had earlier been recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve.

Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province was named a world heritage site by UNESCO twice in 1994 and 2000.

It is the habitat of 4,910 species of plants and animals on land and in the sea, of which 198 species are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species, 51 endemic species.

The primaeval forest area of about 1,045.2 ha on Cat Ba island is one of the important factors creating the ecological value and biodiversity of the heritage. In particular, the Cat Ba Langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus) is a rare species, on the list of animals at the highest risk of extinction. Up to now, there are about 60-70 individuals distributed only in Cat Ba.

In September 2016, the government allowed Hai Phong City to work with Quang Ninh Province to plan the nomination of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago as a world heritage site.

Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago was added to the World Heritage List due to the beauty of its natural landscapes, including charming vegetation-covered limestone islands, breathtaking limestone islets, and impressive karst formations.

Before the new addition, Vietnam had eight world heritage sites recognized by UNESCO, namely Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province, Ha Long Bay, the Hue Imperial Citadel City in Thua Thien Hue Province, Hoi An Ancient Town and the My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam Province, Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi, the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty in Thanh Hoa Province, and the Trang An Landscape Complex in Ninh Binh Province.

Source: vnexpress

The best way to enjoy the beauty of this Archipelago is to stay overnight on a cruise and to do kayaking, cave visiting...in the emerald water bays.

𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦’𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚́𝐨 𝐝𝐚̀𝐢 is one of the country’s most striking symbols of beauty. Over hundreds of years, the áo dài has evolved alongside Vietnam, going from regal to practical, humble to high fashion, and back again. The Vietnamese áo dài is appreciated by the young and old alike, and its elegant lines flatter both men and women.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐚́𝐨 𝐝𝐚̀𝐢
The story of the áo dài starts in 1744, when Vietnam was divided into two territories, the Inner Land (Đàng Trong) and Outer Land (Đàng Ngoài.) To distinguish his people, Lord Nguyễn Phúc Khoát of Inner Land asked his subjects to wear a front-buttoned gown with trousers. This five-part dress (áo ngũ thân) was the inspiration for the modern áo dài. Royals and elites made their dresses from the finest silk, with intricate details and vibrant colours to represent rankings in court.

In the 1930s, the dress was simplified into two parts by Vietnamese artist Le Mur Nguyễn Cát Tường. The front flap was extended to reach the ankle, and the form became more fitted. As with many ‘westernized’ ideas, the style was only reluctantly received at first. However, after Le Mur designed an áo dài collection for Queen Nam Phương, wife of Vietnam's last Emperor Bảo Đại, urban women started to embrace and popularize the more contemporary style.

After the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Hồ Chí Minh penned an essay in 1947 noting that the áo dài was not fit for the fields or the factory, asking Vietnamese to adapt their attire to be more efficient for work. As a result, the áo dài became a dress saved for professional appearances and special occasions. Nowadays, across the country, female highschool students are required to wear the dress for at least one day a week. Girls in white áo dài riding their bicycles to school have inspired many Vietnamese songs, poems, and paintings. The áo dài is also worn by ladies of all ages whenever it’s time to make a good impression.

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚́𝐨 𝐝𝐚̀𝐢
Boat neck, cropped length, short sleeves--modern designers are not afraid to explore creative routes when it comes to áo dài. Some of these new takes on the traditional dress have made it more practical, which means they can be worn in less formal settings. Knee-length styles are convenient for wearing on motorcycles and bicycles, and you’ll see a variety of more casual collars worn on summer days, including scoop neck and boat neck styles.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚́𝐨 𝐝𝐚̀𝐢
Vietnamese women love wearing áo dài for photo shoots in beautiful settings. Golden Autumn days in Hanoi call for photo sessions around Hoàn Kiếm Lake. During Tết (Lunar New Year) you’ll see the dress in all its glory as women wear it to visit friends and family, and pay tribute at temples and shrines. A wedding is the perfect time to wear one’s best áo dài. In Vietnam, the bride and groom and the wedding entourage will wear elaborate áo dài at the traditional ceremony, then guests will show up for the reception in simpler but equally colourful designs.

When choosing an áo dài, each colour has meaning. In Imperial times, gold was a royal colour and reserved for kings and queens. Red áo dài are worn during Tết for luck and prosperity. Brides and grooms may also wear red on their wedding day, so it's a good idea to come in a different colour if you're a guest. White symbolizes purity and innocence, as seen in the white dresses of highschool students, and black is most often worn at funerals. Vietnamese women also choose áo dài colours based on their element (metal, wood, water, fire, or earth) taken from their year of birth.

Anyone can wear áo dài as a way of showing respect. Fancy dinners, important meetings, and celebrations are all suitable occasions, just be sure to always wear your áo dài over pants or trousers. If you are looking for ready-to-wear áo dài, you will be spoilt for choice at shops in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and the Hội An Ancient Town. Hội An’s tailors can also make you an entirely new dress in a matter of days. Feel free to choose your own style and colours to add a personal touch. To create a personalised áo dài, visit Vạn Phúc silk village, 20 minutes from Hanoi. Here you can shop for high-quality silk from the source, learn about silk-making, get your áo dài tailored and take gorgeous photos among flowing silk ribbons.

𝐇𝐨𝐢 𝐀𝐧 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 in the central province of Quang Nam have been named among 𝟗 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) based in Hong Kong.

The SCMP suggested Hoi An as a destination for visitors who want to mix shopping, sightseeing and sunbathing.

According to the SCMP, criss-crossed by canals, Hoi An is a photogenic city on Viet Nam's central coast. An architectural medley of wooden Chinese shophouses, French colonial buildings, ornate temples and the Japanese Covered Bridge helped the Old Town gain UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999.

Formerly one of the busiest trading ports in Southeast Asia, today Hoi An bustles with tourists who sightsee and have clothing tailored for a fraction of the price they would pay at home. At night, lanterns illuminate the Old Town, creating a fairy-tale feel (lantern-making workshops are a hit with visitors).

"Rather than staying in the center of the city, many travelers opt for a beachside base. An Bang's white sands and sparkling blue waters have featured in CNN's list of 100 Best Beaches in the World and are only 3 kilometers from the Old Town. Hire a bike and pedal between the two", the newspaper recommended.
