HANOI BACKSTREET TOURS was founded by three like-minded brothers from different mothers, who by chance or by karma have so many things in common. All born in the same era after the end of Vietnam War, big brother- Tommy Nguyen (1976), second brother- Tho Nguyen (1983) and little brother- Hai Phung (1984) struggled during their childhood growing up in poverty in different villages in the countryside of Northern Vietnam before moving to Hanoi as students and settle down.
Whilst studying at the Hanoi Open University for tourism qualifications they all developed a special love for the city they were learning about, and it is now like a second home-town to them. Having graduated with high distinctions in tourism and hospitality, a wanderlust took hold and the passion for their new professions as tour guides took them to all corners of the country where they honed their skills and were voted the “New-Faces of Vietnam’s Tourism Industry” by several travel magazines and praised by their peers.
As brothers from different mothers they shared similar back-grounds, professions and hobbies. Their love and respect for the vintage MINSK motorcycles they rode on many mountainous trips developed into a passion, and so in 2008 they became officially honored members of the Hanoi MINSK Motorbike Club.
Working for more than 15 years in the travel industry has given them experience and insights into what visitors to Vietnam want to experience, and so in 2010 little brother Hai Phung founded – We Ride Vietnam Travel Company which organized and operating truly adventurous motorcycle trips to the rugged and remote areas of Vietnam and Laos by riding vintage MINSKS and mountain motorcycles and bigger brothers Tho Nguyen and Tommy Le joined the operations and together the dream team launched “HANOI BACKSTREET TOURS”. An achievement, of passion, love, integrity, creativity, experience and responsibility (PLICER) which is the foundation of the core values of Hanoi Backstreet Tours (HBT).

Travelling with HANOI BACKSTREET TOURS is to travel with peace of mind by giving back to the world where we travel to, to support the ones in need. We are dedicated to set-aside a portion of our profit for the October Foundation. This organization is a non-profit and non-government organization which aims to hand to hand and heart to heart support the ones in need by providing support with the education of young children in remote rural villages and orphanage centers, giving meals to poor patients in hospitals, disadvantaged and street kids in the cities and support to provide essential services.
