A few days before arrival of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, a hundred primary and secondary schoolchildren from disadvantaged families in Quang Tri Province have received brand new bicycles from Project RENEW thanks to funding of Veterans For Peace (VFP) Chapter 160 members and other donors. The VFP representatives joined with RENEW staff to travel to the communes of Cam Thanh, Thuan, Gio Son, and Vinh Thai to meet the scores of children in need and give them bright and shiny new bicycles.

Members of the Veterans For Peace's Chapter 106 today followed Project RENEW's Victim Assistance Manager to visit a family with disabled children near the former U.S. military Mai Loc Camp. 69-year-old Le Thi Mit who resides in Phuong An 2 Village of Cam Nghia Commune has two children who are severely disabled due to Agent Orange. One of the children died last year. With support from VFP, RENEW and the local Agent Orange Victim Assocation are trying to make her life and other families' more bearable.

As part of the Vietnam Spring Tour, Veterans For Peace (VFP) Chapter 160 delegation visited Quang Tri Province and learned about Project RENEW's work to address the war consequences. Highlights of their visit were to observe a RENEW's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team conduct live demolition in response to a unexploded ordnance sighting (two cluster bombs) reported by local people and to dedicate access ramp and WC to a family with four disabled children affected by Agent Orange. This construction is funded by VFP and Project RENEW.
