Thailand to lift RT-PCR testing requirement for international travelers from 1 May 2022

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) recently announced that Thailand is likely to scrap the need for a PCR test and 1-night hotel stay upon arrival starting 1 May 2022. Meanwhile, the minimum insurance requirement would be reduced from $20,000 to $10,000 USD.

Under the proposed entry scheme, travelers would still need to enter their vaccination information and health insurance information into the Thailand Pass system in order to gain entry but guests would be free to explore Thailand upon arrival.

Children under 12 would be exempt from these requirements.

‼️ Please note:
These changes will not be ‘official’ until they are published in the Royal Gazette which usually is not until a day or two before the changes take place.

Taj Mahal - Top choice Historic Building in Agra, India

The Taj was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. The death of Mumtaz left the emperor so heartbroken that his hair is said to have turned grey virtually overnight.

Construction of the Taj began the following year; although the main building is thought to have been built in eight years, the whole complex was not completed until 1653.

Not long after it was finished, Shah Jahan was overthrown by his son Aurangzeb and imprisoned in Agra Fort, where for the rest of his days he could only gaze out at his creation through a window.

Following his death in 1666, Shah Jahan was buried here alongside his beloved Mumtaz.

The central Taj structure is made of semitranslucent white marble, carved with flowers and inlaid with thousands of semiprecious stones in beautiful patterns.

The four identical faces of the Taj feature impressive vaulted arches embellished with pietra dura scrollwork and quotations from the Quran in a style of calligraphy using inlaid jasper.

The Taj was designated a World Heritage Site in 1983 and looks nearly as immaculate today as when it was first constructed – though it underwent a huge restoration project in the early 20th century.

Nowadays you can buy tickets to visit Taj Mahal (except Friday) but you can't take photographs inside the mausoleum itself. Bags much bigger than a money pouch are not allowed inside. Any food or to***co will be confiscated when you go through security, as will pens.

JAPAN CHERRY BLOSSOM

Every year, the spring high season (April–May) is the time for cherry blossoms.

The blossoming of the sakura (cherry trees) creates a beautiful natural display that transforms Japan into a vision in pink, luring untold thousands of travelers.

There’s even a name for the singular pastime of enjoying those delicate flushes of pink — Hanami (literally, “flower viewing”).

As soon as the flowers open on the trees, family and friends gather beneath them for picnics and sake, turning parks and gardens into sites of mass outdoor celebrations.

In the evening, the act of viewing cherry blossoms is called Yozakura, with simple lights and lanterns laced into the branches so the flowers appear to glow in the dark.

The event gets more raucous as the moon comes up and the sake slips down. Visitors are welcome to join the celebrations. You can pack a picnic blanket and swing by a supermarket to pick up a spring-themed bento box and some limited-edition Hanami-themed goodies.

Songkran Festival 2022

The Songkran Festival is a national holiday in Thailand. It marks the beginning of the Thai New Year. The word Songkran is derived from the Sanskrit work sankranti, which means astrological passage.

It is a traditional Buddhist festival, and this year it is celebrated between 13 and 15 April.

The Songkran Festival is also known as the water festival. It celebrates water as a ritual of washing away negativity from the year before. People celebrating Songkran take part in a traditional pouring of water that symbolizes washing away back luck and sins from a person’s life.

As April is the hottest month of the year, the celebration of water is relevant on many levels of the festival. Big cities like Bangkok see a host of street parties where thousands of people have water fights with water guns, balloons, and any other vessels they can get their hands on.

In addition to traditional water rituals and street parties, there are other key activities that the Thai people participate in during this week. Many will take this time to attend their temple. Some may also participate in an annual spring cleaning of their homes.

Now is the time to visit Thailand!

Hanoi in the red jellyfish season

The jellyfish season starts in February and lasts until April or May.

Jellyfish has a unique reddish color served with herbs, tofu, copra, and fermented shrimp paste. Their combination gives off a fresh feeling and strange texture, surprising diners and urging you to have another bite.

This dish can now be found in several lanes of Hanoi’s Old Quarter around D**g Xuan Market, Lo Duc, Hang Chieu, and Thanh Ha.

As the weather hots up in Hanoi this is the lunch you need to cool down 😋

The Vietage train was launched by Anantara Hotels in 2020, the six-hour train ride carries that runs through popular tourist hotspots in Da Nang, Hoi An, Quang Ngai and Quy Nhon.

Onboard, marble tables, rattan screens and private booths evoke the romance of vintage rail travel.

Northern mountainous village lined by with the Son Tra trees in full bloom

🌿 Every March, a village in the northern mountainous province of Son La dons a picturesque garb of white blooms, courtesy of Son Tra (Assam apple) trees.

🌿 Son Tra trees bloom and stay for a month before withering and giving away to the fruits.

🌿 Locals often harvest the apple-like fruit, tao meo, produced by the tree to make "ruou tao meo", a popular wine in the northwest mountainous region.

LOCAL FOOD SPECIALTIES IN QUY NHON AND WHERE TO TRY THEM

Besides seafood, Quy Nhon is also home to plenty of delicious local specialties that have a distinct flavor. A few local eateries I highly recommend around Quy Nhon and the dishes you should try.
------------------
✅ 1. Bánh bèo Kim Đình

Open since 1977, the specialties here are Banh beo (steamed rice cake) and Banh bot loc (shrimp dumpling).

Made with small cup moulds, Banh Beo is a small, steamed rice cake shaped like a water fern (hence its name 'Bèo'). It's thick and glutinous, and usually topped with scallions, crushed peanuts and bread crumbs.

Served with a spoonful of the classic Vietnamese 'Nước chấm' (fish sauce based dipping sauce), each cake is intended as one mouthful and unites the flavors in a delicate, harmonious way.

Banh Bot Loc is a small, shrimp dumpling with translucent skin, enjoyed with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. Made with tapioca starch, it gives the dumplings elastic and chewy texture.

There is also an extensive drinks and desserts menu for those looking to stay a little longer.

👉 Find them at: 18A Nguyen Hue, Le Loi, Quy Nhon

✅ 2. Gia Vỹ 2

The specialty here is Banh Xeo Tom Nhay, a savory pancake made with rice flour, turmeric powder and prawns, topped with onions, bean sprouts and spring onion. There is also the option of beef here if prawns aren't quite to your taste.

Once served, you can cut it into halves and assemble it into a rice paper roll with the assortment of heils, thinly sliced mango and condiments provided on your table.

Unlike the Banh Xeo of other regions in Vietnam, these are of a typical Binh Dinh style, Cooked in a small frying pan and left open rather than folded, the pancakes resemble tiny, crunchy pizzas.

Pancakes are prepared at the front of the shop, where one lady may manage up to 12 small pans on gas stoves at one time.

👉 Find them at: 14 Dien Hong, Le Hong Phong, Quy Nhon

✅ 3. Bún thịt nướng Cô Bốn

A local eateries serving a variety of rice and noodle dishes, you can only order its signature Bun Thit Nuong after 2pm.

Bun Thit Nuong is a popular Vietnamese dish of cold rice noodles topped with grilled pork, roasted peanuts, fresh herbs and vegetables. Grilled over hot coals, the smoky flavor of the pork adds a depth to this well-known dish.

In the Co Bon version, you'll also find the addition of fermented pork and fried rice noodle roll. The dish is freshly prepared in the cabinet out the front and ingredients are arranged on top of the noodles with a hoisin-based dressing. This is then ready for you to mix and enjoy.

Another item worth trying here is the Bo La Lop, a dish consisting of minced beef wrapped in betel leaves and grilled over charcoal.

👉 Find them at: 120 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Hong Phong, Quy Nhon
