Day 8: Bac Ha to Yen Bai

An easier ride today as the guys head away from the mountains and back in the direction of Yen Bai, on the way to Hanoi. Damp weather just makes the mud more fun and the stunning, vivid green landscapes bring big smiles!

The night stop at a local homestay sees some new international friends, a great feed and traditionally quite a lot of rice wine! It's great to see they kept up the tradition! :p

Day 7: Ha Giang to Bac Ha.
This is usually a sensational ride but sometimes you run into roadworks and they can be pretty difficult. It's a hard call as to turn around and choose another route which could be harder, or push on. Fortunately amongst the mud and delays, there are still amazing views, great roadside food and the beautiful smiles of the local people.

I bet them dinner that within a week of being home, they would want to be doing it all over again, but Ryan summed up the day like this...

"Today was probably the most difficult motorcycle ride of my life. Mile after mile of deep, wet mud, slippery rock, crazy equipment operators and constant stop and wait sessions The mountains of Vietnam made us earn every single kilometer today." 😄

Day 7: A bit of a change in plans for today after a close encounter with an Aussie rider the day before. He'd obviously forgotten we drive on the other side of the road here and Julian met him head on coming round a bend! Fortunately nobody was hurt but there was a fair bit of damage to the bike. A replacement was arranged to be sent to Ha Giang so the crew take some time out to eat Pho, explore the local markets, temples and back streets of the city.

Day 5 - Part of the much talked about 'Ha Giang Loop', it's a long haul but the guys summed it up in a few words: 🥰
"Cao Bang to D**g Van; just over 200 KM. Tough day, but wow; totally at a loss for the right words. Mind blown on a whole new level."
"Day 5 on the bikes was amazing. The landscape here near D**g Van is unlike anything I've ever experienced in my life."

Day 4: Ban Gioc Waterfall ride

Sometimes the weather just isn't your friend but that's all part of the adventure!

In their own words "Today we rode up to Ban Gioc waterfalls. It was an awesome ride! The scenery was just astounding. On the way back it poured rain, and it was in the 50s. So we came back to town like a few soaking wet rats."

Day 3: Ba Be to Cao Bang

To quote Ryan 😄 - "Cao Bang is a strange city. I can't quite figure out the vibe here. Physically it's pretty big and coming into it are some of the largest roads that we've seen in Vietnam, but there are only like 70,000 people. It's strange."

An easy ride north from Ba Be Lake to Cao Bang takes you through some of the least populated areas in the country. Open roads and no traffic are a big contrast to the previous day's escape from Hanoi!

Day 2: Time to get out of the city and head north to Ba Be Lake. Vietnam's largest natural lake, surrounded by jungle an...

Day 2: Time to get out of the city and head north to Ba Be Lake. Vietnam's largest natural lake, surrounded by jungle and limestone mountains, it's a long way from Hanoi's busy streets!
A cold beer, a great feed and some new friends from an international crowd at the homestay, is a great finish to the first day out.

Day 1: An easy day for the guys picking up the bikes, exploring Hanoi, discovering fluffy dicks in vending machines, why chickens are served with roses and the connection between Hanoi Egg Coffee and how the eggs are transported! A history lesson with a visit to the museum and finishing the day by diving straight into the local cuisine!

Vung Tau is often overlooked as a destination for foreign travellers to visit. Only 100 kms from Ho Chi Minh City and an easy ride by ferry or bus, it offers a relaxed escape from the busy city, with two beaches and a laid back atmosphere.
Like most of Vietnam, Vung Tau is looking colorful with only a week until Tet or Lunar New Year and the country's biggest annual holiday.

02/01/2023

A change from riding, today we took the ferry to Vung Tau. Taking around the same time, it's a lot more scenic than the highway!

After weeks of being stuck at home, riders everywhere are smiling as we can finally hit the road again! A few hours ride cross-country from Saigon to the coastal town of La Gi, is a great way to get out of the city quickly. Smooth roads through endless rubber plantations with fresh air and no traffic get us away from the suburbs. Temperatures are hitting 35 degrees, so there's always time to relax in one of the many road-side hammock stops!
