Thuy Tien Lake - The Abandoned Water Park in Hue

Thuy Tien Lake is located about 8km southwest of Hue city on the hill of Thien An and on the way to Khai Dinh Emperor Tomb, next by Thien An monastery and Ba Vanh ancient tombs.

Built-in 2000, Thuy Tien Lake costs a big-budget for building. As a plan, it would have a great variety of entertainment areas including aquarium palace, a thrilling games area, water park, musical fountain stage, restaurantsโ€ฆ and became an ideal destination for local people and tourists with visiting, camping, entertainment, etc.

In 2003, it was one of the most ideal destination for locals and visitors travel to Hue with its green pine forest and serene lakes.

However, in 2011 Thuy Tien Lake is closed with several factors but the most remarkable reason is low-efficiency, decreasing profit. From then, no one invested to re-build or plan a new project.

Over time, humidity and the weather condition in Hue, everything inside abandoned water park was rusted. It has become more creepy and thrilling and looks like a horror film set. There is a lot of broken glass, a broken wall on the floor. The aquarium is dark and some places covered by moss. Other places are similar, lots of garbage, dried-tree, moss. The aquarium where crocodile lives, now it is pretty dirty and no crocodiles anymore.

After 15 years of being abandoned, the park suddenly became famous again thanks to an article in the American newspaper HuffingtonPost. And from there, many international tourists, including visitors from Europe and the Americas find out and come to discovery Thuy Tien Lake every time exploring Hue.

Because this place has been closed so there are no fences or park manager to stop visitors from entering the park. For security and safety, tourists can not get in. But to get in to visit, you have to give the local security guard from 20.000VND (roughly $1) to 50.000VND (roughly $2.5) to get inside.
