The Lantern Festival, also known as the 1st Full Moon of the Lunar New Year, has become one of the great full moon days of the year for Vietnamese people. This is the first full moon day of the new year, people often go to the temple to pray for blessings for the whole year.

Lotus in Buddhism is also a symbol of purity and elevation. These days, people who go to the temple usually present the most beautiful lotus flowers to express their sincerity and pray for all good things. This is also the message WEAW wants to send to our dear followers on this meaningful day.

On weekends, I often come here with my friends. This is an old coffee shop located in a narrow alley where many food vendors are in two parallel lines.

☕️This coffee shop doesn’t offer unique decoration, it looks simple and relatively low-key, but it always evokes a pang of nostalgia for the old Saigon. It sounds nice being surrounded by an aromatic smell of coffee while drinking it and shooting the breeze with your friends.

“I came here for tea and he (his friend) came here for coffee. We found out that Vietnam was a place that had coffee and tea and was very famous for coffee. In Singapore, it’s very difficult to find Vietnamese tea. We have Taiwanese tea, Chinese tea, and Indian one but not Vietnamese tea. So we decided to come to Vietnam and try Vietnamese tea.” Wo said.

We have different ways to hide ourselves from the hustle and bustle of life. Some might enjoy the dream Mr. Sandman gives them, or others read books and listen to some chill-out songs. Meanwhile, I would love to find my own space at a little concern in the heart of Saigon and sip a cup of coffee.

✨While the coffee’s droplets are dropping steadily into my cup, I would observe everything around me. The sunrays slant through the window and land on the ground as if they are seeking a place to rest before dusk. The winds slip through the trees’ leaves making them shake slightly. The fragrant scent of coffee surrounds me and mingles with some good old songs. Such simple things really help me vent out some steam and go into deep relaxation.

A couple of weeks ago, WEAW Team had a chance to meet Zheng and Woo, who were keen on tea & coffee. They chose Vietnam to continue their exploration as Vietnam has both tea & coffee cultures. As like-minded people, besides making tea & coffee, we were deep in conversation about the two drinks, Vietnamese lifestyle, and history. It was such a nice afternoon!

Bach Dinh, White Palace, or Villa Blanche is located at an ideal place in Vung Tau where it faces the beach and borders the mountain.

This over-100-year-old building used to be the relaxing destination of the Governor-General of Indochina, Bao Dai King, and presidents in South Vietnam in the previous century. As such, Bach Dinh would tell you many stories about the Nguyen Dynasty royals and Vietnamese history in the 20th century when you visit it.

Besides its historical value, Bach Dinh also contains many antiques and relics gathered through centuries, one of them is a set of ceramic tableware of the Kangxi Emperor in the Qing Dynasty of China.

If you are a French architecture and history lover, this place is an absolute must-visit place.

🌱 We started that morning with some exciting stretching exercises while being surrounded by greenery. 🌱

In the beginning, it was quite difficult to do stretching with those sticks, but our guide was really nice and patient with us, she slowly showed us how to use them properly. After a while, we got used to using them and realized that they helped us maintain correct postures.

🥰 It was an extremely relaxing and refreshing morning for us as we had a chance to learn new yoga postures and awaken our energy for our journey in Phan Thiet that day.

That was a summer morning, I woke up quite early and rushed to the beach to admire the sunrise.
Multiple waves were dashing towards the shore.
The sun was gleaming on the ocean’s surface leaving a long yellow glow.
Its rays warmed the ocean and my soul
Its rays flipped through my fingers and glimmered in my eyes.
Its rays slanted through some windows and woke up fishermen.

That might be a casual morning to most people living near the beach, but it’s more than that to me. This tranquil scene and the dashing waves’ sound let me leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city life, I suddenly felt relaxed and peaceful - a feeling that I hardly had for years.

🍲 LẨU THẢ - A HOTPOT BASED ON FENG SHUI PRINCIPLES 🍲

Years ago when tourism activities hadn’t developed already, residents in Phan Thiet City mainly made a living by fishing. After a long day working and then selling fish, fishermen would put everything left in the fishing nets in an iron bucket, pour seasoned water, and boil it. That’s how Lẩu Thả was created.

Today, Lẩu Thả is served to tourists in many restaurants. Apart from fish, there are also sliced boiled pork, fried egg, rice paper, rice noodles, and various types of vegetables.

Its decoration depends on five elements of nature including metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Swalty (a little sweet and a little salty), that’s how fish sauce immerses itself into every single Vietnamese meal. More than a seasoning or a dipping sauce, it’s the soul of Vietnamese cuisine. The process of making fish sauce might sound simple including fishing, making salt and brewing, but each stage requires diligence and meticulousness.

Visiting Lang Chai Xua (Old Fishing Village), WEAW and ICS Team had a chance to watch a film documentary about the history of Phan Thiet fish sauce and learn how fish sauce is manufactured.

✨ The Champa Kingdom built many priceless ancient buildings, some of which are our national heritage today.

The Champa people were so greatly influenced by the Indian Civilization that they constructed Poshanu Towers in the 8th century to worship Shiva Genie - one of the main Hindu deities. In the 15th century, some simple temples were erected to honor Princess Poshanu for her talent and virtue.

Annually, traditional rituals take place at Po Sah Inu, which is 7 kilometers away from Phan Thiet City. That’s how the Cham people make offerings to their ancestors, and pray for health and happiness. On these occasions, tourists could enjoy the rhythms of traditional instruments and Cham folk art performances.

𝐃𝐮𝐜 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 - 𝐀 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲

In 1907, patriots in Phan Thiet City constructed Duc Thanh School to support Duy Tan Movement initiated by Phan Chau Trinh, Tran Quy Cap, and Huynh Thuc Khang in Central Vietnam. Patriots here educated children from unwealthy families on general knowledge and patriotism, established funds, and propagated patriotic activities.

In 1910, Uncle Ho, namely Nguyen Tat Thanh at that time, lived and worked here as a literature teacher before he left for Saigon to find a way to salvage the country.

Today, Duc Thanh School is preserved to demonstrate priceless showpieces related to Uncle Ho during his time teaching here. Besides, it also shows the admiration of Vietnamese people for the beloved former President and his contribution to making Vietnam become a sovereign nation.
