COVID-19 & Visa Updates
Travel Safely in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos with us.
Most of the COVID-19 restrictions and rules have been lifted in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos to encourage international tourism. Below is a brief overview of the COVID-19 requirements and the electronic visa (E-visa) for Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.
VIETNAM
At all border gates, Quarantine and COVID-19 vaccination certificates are not required: No testing, no quarantine, no medical declaration, and no travel restrictions apply to international tourists arriving in Vietnam by flights or overland checkpoints. In many places in Vietnam, wearing a mask is no longer a requirement. The requirement for masks in public places has been eliminated.
Insurance: There is still a need for medical/travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment with a minimum coverage of at least $10,000 for visitors to Vietnam.
Visa: Vietnam also allows visa-free entry for up to 15 days for citizens of 13 countries, regardless of passport type or entry purpose, such as Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.). The application process for Vietnam's e-Visa is very simple. Over 80 countries are eligible for the visa approval process online. THAILAND
COVID-19 Emergency Decree ended on 30 September 2022, removing all travel restrictions related to the pandemic. Consequently, foreign travelers to Thailand will no longer need to show proof of vaccination, Rapid Antigen Test (ATK) results, or Travel Medical Insurance as of 1 October 2022. All travelers are welcome to visit Thailand, regardless of their vaccination status. It is now voluntary to wear masks indoors and in public places, except in health care facilities. Face masks may be required inside some businesses. Please refer to the detailed information at https://www.tatnews.org/2022/09/thailand-ends-covid-19-emergency-decree-on-30-september-2022/.
Before traveling to Thailand, it is highly recommended that you purchase travel insurance that provides at least $10,000 of health insurance coverage. A travel insurance policy is required only for travelers entering Thailand and traveling onward to China or India, both of which require negative results from PCR tests for entry. The insurance must be valid at least 7 days ahead of the intended Thailand stay.
There are 64 countries that enjoy the Visa Exemption rule, which allows tourists to enter Thailand for 30 days without a visa. Please see detailed information at https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand-visa/thai-visa-exemption-and-bilateral-agreement.
CAMBODIA
Cambodia is an open country with no test requirements and visa on arrival, regardless of transport mode. It is also not a requirement for guests to wear masks outside. Foreign tourists will still be required to show proof of vaccinations or a Covid-19 Vaccination Card, as well as health insurance, but PCR tests 72 hours before arrival and Rapid Antigen Tests (ATK) will not be required. Please see detailed information at https://www.tourismcambodia.com/news/localnews/28112/passengers-will-no-longer-be-required-for-pcr-tests-72-hours-prior-to-arrival-and-rapid-tests-on-arrival.htm.
If travelers are not vaccinated, they need only take a $US5 ATK test upon arrival. They will be free to explore Cambodia if the results are negative. In the event of a positive result, guests are responsible for the cost of isolation in an accommodation approved by the Ministry of Health. Vaccines are not required for children under 18 years of age if parents/guardians are fully vaccinated. There is no requirement for guests to wear masks outside.
Insurance for health and medical care is recommended but is not required. Health/medical insurance can be purchased for $US90 at a local insurance agent upon arrival.
Cambodia offers Visa on Arrival to all foreign tourists, regardless of whether they enter the country by air, sea, or land. Foreign tourists can obtain an E-Visa electronically. Cambodia E-Visa applications can be submitted online. Please access detailed information at https://www.evisa.gov.kh/
LAOS
Laos has been reopened to foreign travelers and is fully back to normal: there is no quarantine, no testing, and no requirement to prove vaccination. Travelers may enter Laos quarantine-free by land, air, or river boat, regardless of their vaccination status. Some locals still wear masks while others do not: guests can decide whether to wear masks for personal reasons. We recommend guests wear masks in crowded areas to prevent unnecessary disruptions, but this is not a requirement.
Visas to Laos can be obtained online through e-Visas for most foreign tourists. There are five international ports where e-Visas can be used, including Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge in Vientiane, Luang Prabang International Airport, Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge II in Savannakhet Province, and Pakse International Airport in Champasak Province. Visa on arrival is also now available for $US40 per person. Check out the link below for more information. https://laoevisa.gov.la/index.
