Thanksgiving is the annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year.

There are similar festivals - harvest festival in Vietnam or Xia Yuan festival in China.

The harvest festivals are important for Mong people in Yen Bai province and Jrai and Bahna people in Gia Lai Province.

Every end of September and beginning of October, before harvesting, Mong people reap some of their first rice in the fields to cook and offer to their ancestors showing respects, duties and wishing for a full harvest in the next season.

Every November, Jrai and Bahnar in Gia Lai province have harvest festival in honors of rice that Giang (God) gives to the villagers. They worship gods of sky and land, gods of rivers, streams, mountains, rains and thunders to pray for favorable weather and good harvests.
