The Original Taste of Hoi An Food Tour - Vietnam and our fabulous guests has been helping San's Rice Run for years now. San wanted to provide an update from the last visit and thank everyone for their support.

HELPING THE NEEDY WITH YOUR HELP!
San’s Rice Run joins with Thien Nguyen and Tình Nghĩa to take food and clothing to 50 poor and disadvantaged families in the mountains approx 150km from Hoi An. Very few of these villagers have electricity - no TV - no WIFI - no running water but they are so grateful for our help. Summer has arrived - 35C and we left Hoi An at 4am - any discomfort we felt paled into insignificance when it comes to the needs and suffering of these people trying to survive with little or nothing at all - truly heart wrenching. So thank you once again to all our regular supporters. Your generosity towards these people keeps me going.

WE STARTED OUR POST-COVID TOURS IN MAY BUT SOMETHING SPOOKY HAS HAPPENED

We have the same team with just the one addition - our General Manager Ms Hien (bossy bossy). We have mostly the same suppliers for our 40+ tastings and our tour route is the same. Yet from Day 1 in May last year, our tour changed. It is as if we are now operating in some parallel universe.
Our guests are not the same demographic as we’d become used to over the years - mostly younger, well-heeled, well-researched professionals as well as nationalities we’d not previously had as guests - and definitely more fun loving.
The team loves it - it has brought even more energy to what was, we believed, an already a high energy tour. Based on our glowing TripAdvisor reviews it would appear this new demographic also loves what we do.
As an old marketing man I am always suspicious of sudden unexplained changes in a market however I suspect the two-year world-wide lock-down has given travelers more time to research and they are definitely more discerning - looking for value rather than simply cheap pricing. We are one of the few operators who have both increased pricing and at the same time added value through some new and unique experiences. Sadly other operators have cut pricing, offered commissions and then tried to save money by reducing the overall quality of their product and services. We do not in any way see this as a positive for us as it reduces the overall quality of the Hoi An experience.
By way of a post script, today’s bookings set an all-time one-day record for our tour. The immediate future looks bright, however we have a healthy sense of dissatisfaction and are planning to launch a new tour experience in the near future - watch this space.
