I am a Canadian, 60, who has been living in the town of My Tho for about one year. In that time I have spent hundreds of hours exploring the eastern Mekong Delta by motorbike. I have loved the Happy Farm Homestay since I first visited, and so now I have teamed up with Khoi and Oanh to offer a range of motorbike rides in the area to their guests. The fees are deliberately low so as not to be a barrier to almost anybody visiting the area for a few days. Guests can choose almost any combination of the 10 0r more tours on offer, as some of them are only one hour long while others are six hours or more or even overnight adventures.
Happy Farm will arrange motorcycles for you. We admittedly take advantage of Vietnam’s very generous policy of not insisting on motorcycle licenses for tourists, and we are very careful and law abiding. Most of the riding is out of town and very easy even for first-time riders. All of the bikes are fully automatic and require little to no skill to operate.
You can of course choose to visit any and all of the more obvious tourist attractions around the towns of My Tho and Ben Tre, and limit your travel to those, or you can include the many less known or indeed completely unknown attractions going into smaller backroads and even obscure paths in obscure villages and near-jungle. The variety of terrain is large - coconut forests to rice paddies, dragonfruit orchards to desolate seaside areas, luxury resorts to crumbling fishing villages seemingly forgotten by modernity. A full and very detailed list is provided with information about each of the ten rides.
Each of the rides can include as little or as much walking as you choose. I can advise on conditions for each. There are also plenty of boating opportunities. Attractions include museums, buildings perhaps interesting to some for their architecture, islands, factories, orchards and farms, town centres with fancy western restaurants, public markets, bars and restaurants of all kinds, swimming pools, rivers and lakes.
