There were very few tourists back then even the backpackers hadn't turned up yet. I hired a motorbike and set about exploring the Island. What an adventure. I had not met my future wife yet so did this alone. When the rainy season started the onwers of my beach front bungalow made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They said if I pay them in advance $1000 they would sign me a lease for 12 months. What a bargain.

My new friends Jimmy and Hans introduced me to Norbert, Clause and Cham. Now I was starting to feel at home, and the fun began. Beer was important to them and me being a Kiwi, well that suited me perfect.

At first I was confused, reason why nobody spoke any English. After 4 days talking to no one I walked into town to the day market, 8.30am and here were 2 foreigners drinking beer. They called me over, I had some mates, a Dutchman and an Aussie.

The past is the past, it's over and gone.
The present is a present, let's live it.
The future who knows, only the boss.
But back to the past as it's history and that is what part of my blog is about. When I first got here there was only 6 resorts and a few beach bungalows, but nice and very friendly. Only dirt tracks round the Island, with maybe 5kms of sealed road in the main town Duong d**g. It was a desert Island, just what I needed.

A change today, back to the present. This is a big Island 594 sq kms. It takes 3 days to see it briefly and another day for the Islands around us. There is alot to see and do, just send us an email [email protected] best contact method for us.
With your expectations and I am sure we can do for you.
Nature, natural and real life is what we our best at. The major tourist attractions you can do on your own by taxi or bike. But if you want it real we are your boys.

I arrived here on Phu Quoc Island on 1st April 2007, April fools day, not sure who for them or me. Having been here 2 years before with my 1st girl of 25 years together. And for the first 6 months cried myself to sleep heartbroken until I met my present wife who bought me round to my senses. She already had a 6 year old boy and was washing dishes on her haunches for $1 a day trying to make ends meet. Since then she has given me my own boy now 16 and a girl 12. But my big boy now 23 calls me Papa everyday and still lives at home with us all.

Hi all, like I said going to start off with a little information about myself but will get back to the Island and more photos soon.
I have lived a privileged life. Average Family, average income, always enough food and love.
Started work at 15, apprentice Carpenter, small money but learnt many skills. Started Commercial Fishing at 17, five times the money great job, did this for 33 years.
Started fighting at 14, for my pride, for my future and for the life I wanted. Life was basic, simple house, lovely girl, grew our own food, hunted, fished, played guitar made my own rules.
Have 3 children in New Zealand all girls all grown up and married now. Had 2 houses and 3 cars. But life takes it's turns and ended
up in Vietnam.
Now I am really privileged to see how the other half live. Two thirds have nothing but give you everything.
What are the rules!!!

Hi there my Friends,
I think it's time for me to increase my presence on Social Media.
So I have decided to add a bit of a blog about myself and my experiences in the lovely Country of Vietnam and this Island Phu Quoc. I will also offer any advice to help you with your future holidays here. I think I have learnt enough and understand this Island after living here just short of 18 years.
