🐾🐾🐾 Did you know there are 2 types of bears native to Vietnam? The Asiatic black bear (moon bear) and the Malayan sun bear. Unfortunately, both are listed as vulnerable under the IUCN list of threatened species due to habitat destruction and poaching. In Vietnam, despite legal protection, the capture and breeding of bears for the bile trade continues.

How can you help protect these amazing creatures?

One of the best ways to help to protect endangered species is to connect with local NGOs in your area.

At The Learning Project we have teamed up with Four Paws at the Ninh Binh Bear Sanctuary to support the work they do and spread awareness to our schools. At the sanctuary the students learn about the bears and their rescue story, and work with our service learning team to build toys for the bears. This season we have been incredibly impressed with the students ability to follow a design plan and use tools safely.

Thank you to the Ninh Binh Bear Sanctuary for welcoming us and well done students! Please help to spread awareness in your school communities about protecting endangered species and conserving the natural environment.

Yesterday, on the 🌳🌳🌳 International Day of Forests 🌳🌳🌳 we were honoured to attend a conference in Cuc Phuong National Park on the theme of Forests, Innovation and Creativity. This conference brought together key decision-makers and stewards of Vietnam's conservation movement and looked at the sustainable ecotourism plan for 2023-2030.

At The Learning Project we are passionate about connecting students with nature and conservation but also understanding the complexity of sustainable development.

We just had our last trip of the lunar new year in Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park (in the central highlands) and it was absolutely stunning! We ran this trip for one of our Ho Chi Minh-based schools as part of their Duke of Edinburgh International Award. Our guides had a great time and were really impressed with the maturity and tenacity of the students, well done guys!

Are our guides first aid trained?

Yes! Every two years our local and foreign guides receive their First Aid Level 2 issued by the Vietnam Swimming and Lifesaving Company. https://www.facebook.com/vietnamslc/

(This qualification is in line with the European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021).

This is combined with our rigorous Risk Assessment process and Emergency Evacuation Plan to make our trips as safe as possible.

We are looking for outgoing, active tour guides and activity instructors to work on multi-day school trips all over Vietnam.

Tasks:
- Working with international schools to lead groups of students in Vietnam.
- Running activities such as cycling, hiking, crafts, outdoor games, team challenges.

Must have:
- Great spoken English
- Experience working in the outdoors or with young people
- Tour guide license is an advantage
- Vietnam Police Clearance issued in last 12 months
- Design, construction and science background HUGE advantage
- Availability during March/April and September – December 2024

Package:

Huge congratulations to the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, Vietnam for 30 years of amazing work!

Did you know that northern Vietnam has a cold winter? Did you know that it can snow in Sapa? Did you know that there are 4 seasons in the north and 2 seasons in the south?

We're entering the coldest time of the year where mountainous areas can see temperatures as low as 0° Celsius, especially at night. But inside traditional houses and homestays people keep toasty warm with big blankets and crackling fires. Winter can also be lovely hiking weather for students as long as you have a good sleeping bag!

Wishing all our mountain friends a warm and cosy winter and thank you to May Ly for keeping us warm with her fire 🔥

Can you differentiate between a gibbon and a langur? What is the natural habitat of the red-shanked douc langur? Why are these primates endangered in Vietnam?

We have been working with the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre (EPRC) for many years and this season we were once again honoured to be invited back. The EPRC is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, breeding, research and conservation of Vietnam’s endangered and critically endangered primate species. This season we have been working with students at the EPRC to design and build enrichment items for the primates as part of their rehabilitation into the wild. We have been incredibly impressed with the students as they follow a design plan and use tools safely.
