Heading to Emae Island..14/01/21
World Environment Day 2020
Okeanos Vanuatu is making a big contribution towards combating the climate change by reducing the atmospheric pollution of carbon monoxide.
The Vaka uses primarily wind energy as its main source of energy .During the daylight hours the vaka produces it's own electricity through PVC panels .
If and when wind energy is unavailable, the vaka uses combustion engine energy fueled by coconut oil, thus reducing its impact on our atmosphere.
The vaka is used primarily within Vanuatu to transport products and materials around and between the 83 islands of Vanuatu.

Okeanos Vanuatu Supports Shepherd Islands' Agricultural Tourism
It is #ThrowbackThursday and we are looking back at Okeanos Vanuatu supporting local agriculture, by making weekly trips to Shepherd Islands and back to Port-Vila to transport local crops to be sold at market. @Vanuatu's progressive sustainable development goals include consuming only locally produced agriculture and not importing foreign foods.
Our crew Diamond Solwora, Adjay Zedrack, & Melven Tom Metz Jay use the #vakamotu to revive the seafaring traditions of their ancestors that is the basis of their cultural practice of exchange and family bonding while providing their community with sea transportation that is fossil fuel-free.
New Caledonian Voyagers Sail Okeanos Vaka Motu
Our #MCM: New Caledonian voyagers AïLé Guide Kwegnyii & Djah Lué Streter who trained for three months at the Okeanos Maritime Training Center, sailed #OkeanosWaaqab to Vanuatu.
Aile and Robert continue to support the ancestral bond between Melanesian sailors by hosting Okeanos Vanuatu in New Caledonia in partnership with Kenu One Project.
Take another look at their historic voyage!

Moana's definitely got the crew's back...
"Got in late last night...we left Opua for Vanuatu last year and was farewelled by pod of Dolphins on our way out to Vanuatu....dolphins rubbing their tummy on our Uli and stayed around with us for few minutes, last night when we got in...one year later... the same thing happened, but this time it was bow riding, jumping up n down and also rubbing its tummy again on our Uli..I guess it was greeting us again. We are best friends with sealife. They probably felt we needed that entertainment. :) tried doing a video but it was to dark..but the sound of their blowholes was to good. Ive never heard them so loud as last nite. Just got cleared by customs..now for a hundred chickens at KFC!!!" #OurConnectionWithTheSea
