Contract for new Passport system signed
The minister of Internal Affairs, in charge of Vanuatu Immigration and Passport Services, Johnny Koanapo has signed on Friday the contract for a new passport system.
Director of Immigration, Jeffrey Markson said this new system will finally solve the longstanding passport issues.
The contracted company is from Germany and will provide a system similar to the one used in Fiji.
They will offer support for three years, and the new system is expected to launch by April after nearly a year of processing, including advertising, application assessment, and tender board review.
Markson explained that this system will handle person enrolment, address issues with lost forms, and even capture ID photos, putting an end to the need for citizens to go elsewhere for them.
Printing of passport booklets will start once enrolment is complete.
They’re considering a printing machine that can produce at least eight booklets per minute, depending on network reliability.
Mr. Markson confirmed payment will be made this week, allowing the company to being providing the service.
