THROUGH THE CREWS EYES

Pacific Explorer is currently docked in Singapore for the final time after completing her last voyage under the P&O Cruises Australia brand.

Housekeeping Steward, Lorine Naguy, from Vanuatu explains her experience while she completes her first contract on board Pacific Explorer.

“Being a seafarer is not just a job; it is a way of life.

Over the months that I have spent at sea, I have learned so much more.

I have learned how to work as a part of a team, how to face challenges head-on.
The experiences I have had on board have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person, and I am grateful for the opportunity to live this life.

One of the things I will miss the most when I finally go home is the sense of camaraderie that exists amongst the crew. On board we are not just colleagues, we are a family, we rely on each other for support, both in good times and in bad times, and that bond is something that is hard to find anywhere.

I will miss the conversations on the deck, the shared meals in the crew mess, and the shared sense of purpose that comes with working towards a common goal. But as much as I will miss life at sea. I am also looking forward to returning home.

The smell of the ocean, the sound of the waves lapping against the hull, and the feelings of being surrounded by nothing but water for miles on end. These are all the things that I will carry with me wherever I go and as I set feet on the ground once again, I will do so with a newfound appreciation for the new world around me, and a grateful heart for the lessons that the sea has taught me. Lorine Naguy “

It's our beautiful Intern's last day with us at South Sea Services Ltd.

Lavinia Garae has been our first even intern and it's been a pleasure having her with us.

Lavi has recently studied a Business (Administrative Services) Certificate 2 course at Vanuatu Institute of Technology and was required to do a 3 month internship. She came to our office in November and we instantly took a liking to her and agreed for her to do an internship with SSS. What a great decision that was!

Lavi had the ability to grasp company processes quickly and apply them effectively. She has great problem solving skills and her commitment and time management skills were outstanding. She is polite, enthusiastic, friendly, honest and works well with others.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer her a permanent position at the moment, as we are still recovering from the post Earthquake affects but we sincerely wish her all the very best in her future endeavors and any employer who she accepts employment from will definitely not be disappointed.

Thank you for your time, commitment, honesty and charisma.

We will miss you Lavi

Hello everyone
Our office has had some severe damage due to the earthquake. We are currently closed.

I have tried to extract as much as I could from our office in a very unstable building but our computers are damaged.

Once I have a system set up and running and a temporary office I'll do a post here. No emails are working at this time.

For any emergencies call 006787799881.

I have limited WiFi as had to drive to a hotel to get connected.

Prayers to all who are currently suffering.

ATTENTION ALL SHIP OWNERS & MARITIME COMPANIES

We encourage you to complete this Women in Maritime - IMO and WISTA International Survey 2024 (whether you employ women or not) so that IMO and WISTA have accurate reporting data.

See following official link to the survey: https://tinyurl.com/y673r8ha

This Survey is run every three years to obtain baseline data on the number of women in maritime and oceans fields and the positions they occupy.

This Survey supports implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by having comparable data that will assist in creating programmes and proposing policies that will increase the participation of women in maritime. This helps in promoting a more diverse and inclusive environment in the maritime sector. A report containing the aggregate numbers will be available to all interested parties via the IMO and WISTA International websites.

The results of the first survey, conducted in 2021, can be downloaded from the website.

The current Survey will run from September to end-December 2024. The final Report will be published in May 2025
