Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo Caritas Switzerland is an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which has been operating in Kosovo since 1999.

Caritas Switzerland is an independent Swiss NGO, engaged in Switzerland and in more than 15 countries worldwide, including Kosovo. Our goal is to fight poverty in a sustainable manner. To achieve that goal, Caritas Switzerland (CaCH) employs a policy of equity: we support inclusive communities with opportunities for everyone regardless of their ethnic background, group affiliation or gender. Our r

oots in Kosovo date back to 1999 when we began supporting the reconstruction of war-damaged homes. The present country strategy focuses on income generation, migration and early childhood education. CaCH has been engaged in early childhood education projects since 2002 mostly focusing on initiatives that support the development of children of ages 4-6 and educators of this level. Various actions were and are focusing on classroom equipment and teacher training in pedagogical methodologies with a focus on learning through playing approach. Such actions and approaches resulted as successful, enabled the creation of dynamic learning environments contributing to the development of children and educators and were highly welcomed. CaCH is currently engaged in further improving the quality of pre-primary education and services offered in this level of education. Within the current SHPRESE project, we are providing support to children and educators through teacher training and classroom equipment. In addition, we are also engaged in transferring our approaches, practices, and experiences within the framework of pre-primary education to local institutions. Therefore, we are closely working with the Kosovo Pedagogical Institute, Association of Kosovo Municipalities, Municipal Education Directorates and Faculties of Education in Gjakova, Gjilan, Mitrovica and Prizren. CaCH is also involved in a highly regarded agricultural project by supporting different market actors for increasing production and cultivated areas, improving their incomes from sales of berries, medical aromatic plants and other non-wood forest products, developing their production capacities and build stronger value chains. As part of the programme, farmers were also trained on how to apply modern agricultural production standards, monitored and advised by agricultural experts. This has improved farmers' yields and contributed to making agriculture a viable option as their livelihood. Additionally, the local producer associations and cooperatives were strengthened to deliver professional training, establish advisory and marketing services and become more sustainable. National producer associations are also supported and learned how to lobby and advocate on issues on behalf of their members and to make stronger farmers' voice at the national level. Since 2018, CaCH is active in the field of Migration through the implementation of the project ‘Sustainable Return of Repatriated Persons through Socio-Economic Reintegration’ (SUREP) in close cooperation with national and local partners. CaCH supports psycho-socially, legally and medically to improve the overall welfare of repatriated persons and their families. This support included psychotherapy, assistance in accessing the public service and assistance with schooling and housing. In addition, through economic reintegration activities repatriated persons were supported locally. The project assists the repatriated persons to enroll in on-the-job training, participate in further professional training and provide continuous mentoring services to the ones receiving business start-up grants. Finally, the project supports Municipal Offices of Communities and Return (MOCRs) to strengthen their capacities in dealing with the reintegration of repatriated persons.

30 single-headed households successfully completed professional training (VET) as part of the TAKE project by Caritas Switzerland.
With a special ceremony last week, we marked their certification, an important step towards integration into the labor market by equipping these women with new skills and opportunities for a more sustainable future.

📢 We presented the results of the audience research on media coverage of agriculture in Kosovo.📊
Our programme brought together representatives from agribusinesses, media professionals, NGOs, and the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss how we can collectively enhance agricultural communication.
🎯As a first for this target audience, the goal of this research was to identify information gaps, challenges, the type of information needed, and the preferred communication channels for farmers, agribusinesses, and media/journalists in Kosovo.
📌The key findings from this research are the beginning of a collaborative journey towards a more informed and connected agricultural and media community.🤝

Festimi i Ditës Ndërkombëtare të Migrantëve me rrëfime të transformimit

Njihuni me Alla Korchakova, njëra nga individet frymëzuese të mbështetura nga projekti , i cili ka ofruar mundësi integrimi për refugjatë të panumërt përmes kurseve të gjuhës, abacus për fëmijë, etj.

Alla së fundi ka përfunduar kurset transformues të integrimit dhe të gjuhës shqipe në Prishtinë. Duke reflektuar mbi përvojën e saj, ajo ndau:

"Trajnimet mbuluan tema të rëndësishme të integrimit si kultura, historia dhe institucionet e Kosovës, ndërsa nxitën një shkëmbim përvojash midis gazetarëve nga Ukraina dhe Kosova. Ne zbuluam vlera të përbashkëta, si respekti për nënat, mirësia dhe dëshira për të ndihmuar të tjerët. Vizitat kulturore dhe kuzhina tradicionale ishin një kënaqësi e vërtetë.

Histori si ajo e Allës na kujtojnë forcën në diversitet dhe fuqinë e komunitetit. Le të vazhdojmë të ndërtojmë ura dhe të krijojmë mundësi për ata që kanë më shumë nevojë për to. 🌟

Celebrating International Migrants Day with Stories of Transformation

Meet Alla Korchakova, one of the inspiring individuals supported by the project, which has provided integration opportunities to countless refugees through courses in language, abacus for children, and more.

Alla recently completed the transformative integration and Albanian language courses in Pristina. Reflecting on her experience, she shared:

"The trainings covered important integration topics like Kosovo's culture, history, and institutions, while fostering an exchange of experiences between journalists from Ukraine and Kosovo. We discovered shared values, such as respect for mothers, kindness, and the desire to help others. The cultural visits and local cuisine were a real pleasure. I am deeply grateful to JRS and Caritas Switzerland for this excellent opportunity and unwavering support."

The closing event of the Municipal Action for Reintegration and Diaspora (MARDI) Project held today marked the successful conclusion of a three-year transformative project. Opening and inspiring remarks from Mr. Besim Kamberaj (Ministria e Zhvillimit Rajonal) and Dr. Gerhard Schaumberger (Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo) put emphasis on the fruitful partnership and the impact that this project has had. Further along, the heartfelt beneficiary stories from Tetiana Kraselnykova, a Ukrainian Refugee and Rina Shabani, representative of Flutura Academy, Diaspora Investment Project beneficiaries', showcased the stories of those who have benefitted directly from the project. Lastly, a summary of project evaluation findings was presented by Mr. Artan Canhasi, an external evaluator, which highlighted the project’s impactful journey and its sustainability. Special thanks to our partners, including government institutions, NGOs, associations for their unwavering support in making MARDI project a success. Together, we’ve created meaningful change for reintegration and diaspora engagement in Kosovo.

Një delegacion zyrtarësh nga Komuna e Gjakovës, Ministria e Zhvillimit Rajonal dhe Ministria e Punëve të Brendshme u angazhuan me përfaqësues të ndryshëm rajonalë dhe institucionalë në Malmö, duke përfshirë Bordin Administrativ Rajonal të Skåne, Autoritetin për Zhvillim Rajonal të Skåne, organizatën ombrellë të shoqërisë civile Malmö Ideella, qendrën e inovacionit Minc Malmö, dhe Malmö University. Our projects in Kosovo

Caritas Switzerland is an international NGO, engaged in Switzerland and 20 countries worldwide. Our mission is to prevent, combat and eradicate poverty. Caritas Switzerland has been working in Kosovo since 1999, focusing on social inclusion, rural development and reconstruction. Based on the strategy 2017-2020, our fields of activities are “Education and Income”, “Food Security and Markets” and “Migration”.

Caritas Switzerland has been engaged in early childhood education projects since 2002 mostly focusing on initiatives that supported the development of children aged 4-6 and educators of this level. Various actions have been taken mostly focusing on classroom equipment and teacher training in pedagogical methodologies with a focus on learning through play. Our actions and our approach have been very successful, enabling the creation of dynamic learning environments contributing to the development of children and educators. As a result, CaCH is currently engaged in further improving the quality of pre-primary education and services offered for this age group. Within the current SHPRESE project, we are providing support to children and educators through teacher training and classroom equipment. In addition, we are also engaged in transferring our approach, practices and experiences within the framework of pre-primary education to local institutions. Therefore, we are closely working with the Kosovo Pedagogical Institute, Association of Kosovo Municipalities, Municipal Education Directorates and Faculties of Education in Gjakova, Gjilan, Mitrovica and Prizren.

Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo is implementing agricultural project by assisting local farmers through the PASURI project. This support enables them to increase production in cultivated areas through grant packages; and improve their incomes from sales of berries, honey and medical herbs, while developing their production capacities and building strong value chains. Through monitoring and advise by our agricultural experts’, these farmers were also trained to apply modern agricultural production standards. Additionally, the local producer associations and cooperatives were strengthened to deliver professional trainings, establish advisory and marketing services to become sustainable. While, national producer associations were capacitated to lobby and advocate for their members and make stronger farmers voice at national level.

The SUREP project aims to support repatriated persons through labour market measures as well as psycho-social counselling, legal advice and medical care. This may include psychotherapy, help with public service access, as well as assistance with schooling or housing. A further component of the project is to work in close cooperation with the local institutions, in order to strengthen their capacities and to give support to vulnerable repatriated persons in the reintegration process. This project is implemented in close cooperation with respective line ministries, as well as the Municipal Offices of Community and Return in Fushe Kosova, Istog, Lipjan, Peja, Prishtina, Prizren, and Vushtrri.
