The 2-1 Air Defense Artillery Battalion recently held a Change of Command ceremony, bidding farewell to Lt. Col. Andrew L. McCollum and welcoming Lt. Col. Benny Y. Lee and his family. This transition marks a change in leadership, but the battalion's commitment to its mission remains steadfast. We wish Lt. Col. McCollum all the best as he transitions to serve at USFK.
The Change of Command ceremony is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the battalion to ensuring the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula. With the passing of the colors to Lt. Col. Lee, the 2-1 Air Defense Artillery Battalion is now well-positioned to continue its crucial mission under new leadership.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Lt. Col. Lee and his family, and we look forward to witnessing the continued success and dedication of the Guardian Battalion.

In June 2021, at the age of 94, Opal Lee, also known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” led efforts that later succeeded in passing a bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Warrant Officer Diante O. Pullum explains the significance of Juneteenth, a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. He describes how, on June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Warrant Officer Pullum emphasizes the importance of celebrating Juneteenth as a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and equality.
