Grasses and Greens Supplies CC was established in July 2008 where it operated from a family lounge and garage in Edenvale. After some big changes were made in the golf and turf consumable market and some of us were left unemployed, plans and future decisions had to be made. This was the start of Grasses and Greens Supplies CC. By June 2009, operating a business from home was no longer an option. G
rasses and Greens Supplies decided to open a retail shop in Edenvale town opposite the Edenvale post office. The move made the company very central and convenient for most customers. The retail shop allowed Grasses and Greens Supplies to service the Golf Course Market, Sports and Recreation Facilities, Municipalities and directly to the home user. The public were able to come for technical advice and purchase stock at good prices, directly from the shop. We had three great years at the retail shop. By 2012, Grasses and Greens Supplies found that the shop space and storage facilities were no longer sufficient for our needs and once again it was time to move on. Grasses and Greens Supplies then purchased property in Edenvale and moved its full operation to this venue. These were exciting times for us. Establishing a business when the turf industry in South Africa was, and 5 years later still is going through very trying times has not been easy. Grasses and Greens Supplies’ main focus has always been the golfing industry, providing basic technical support, cost effective solutions and reasonably priced products. Due to the economic climate and the way the industry has turned, our focus has had to change. We now provide all of the above to the turf industry as a whole, including the normal home gardener to the technically qualified turf Superintendent. Elsie van der Walt is the backbone of Grasses and Greens Supplies. Elsie is the Administration Manager and maintains the smooth running of the office. Most of the administration, quotations and accounts are supervised by Elsie. Philimon Makwela and Peter Thinane are responsible for all stock and deliveries. They are a very important part of our company structure and the performance of the company. Philli and Peter also assist in liaising with key clients when required. Marinda le Roux – Myburgh is the latest member to have re-joined “the team” and is responsible for sales and marketing to clients in Pretoria, Vaal Triangle, West Rand, Servest Group and other key clients. Sharon Holton is the owner of Grasses and Greens Supplies. She is also the Key Accounts Manager. Sharon has been in the turf industry since 1993 where she started her career at a company called Golf & Turf. Golf & Turf was one of the first consumable supply companies in the turf industry in South Africa. Sharon is certified in Turfgrass Management and Turfgrass Pest Control and has gained a wealth of knowledge from attending turf related seminars such as Primary and Secondary Cultural Practises, Health and Safety, Turfgrass Plant Breeding and Selection, Poa – Love it or leave it!, to name only a few. Sharon is able to use her educated experience and knowledge gained over 20 years as well as technical support from suppliers and consultants to assist the individual needs of all Grasses and Greens Supplies customers. We supply products to some clients who utilise the services of certain South African top turf Consultants
Some of the Grasses and Greens Supplies staff members have worked together since 1995, from Golf & Turf, to Ocean Turf Supplies, to Afgri Consumables and now with Grasses and Greens Supplies. Our team is very well known in the turf industry and we all form a part of the big turf family. In 2010 and 2011, Sharon was elected to the Golf Course Managers Greenkeepers Association (The GCMGA), as a Trade Member. In 2012, the GCMGA changed its name to the Turfgrass Managers Association Gauteng (TGMA Gauteng), which includes all Turf Managers and Superintendents and not only members affiliated to a Golf Course. The TGMA Gauteng represents schools, bowling greens, soccer and rugby stadiums, maintenance and contract companies etc., any business affiliated to the turf industry. In 2012 and 2013 Sharon was once again elected onto the TGMA Gauteng Committee as one of the two trade members provided for in the constitution. In summary, Grasses and Greens Supplies is a company that distributes products nationally, into Africa, Zanzibar and Mauritius. Grasses and Greens Supplies distribute products for some of the larger manufacturers in the Industry. Our suppliers and manufacturers offer an unlimited supply of imported and local products and always try to meet the customer’s needs and expectations. Grasses and Greens Supplies is a registered importer and exporter with the South African Revenue Services.
