Hi friends of Puke. Want to share a miracle meeting - still can't believe it. Electrician Peter Judd had an hour's drive to the Bach and arrived on time! He did our long wish list on the same day. We were surprised Peter could get under the house - he reassured us there was enough room for a party - here he is with his happy feet. He had the best attitude and fell in love with our rustic happy place.

Big thanks to Pat's foot soldiers and our Puketitiri neighbours for coming to our Winter Picnic. The sun shone, the soup flowed and thirty gorgeous nature lovers were able to enjoy the various bush walks at our backdoor.

The road to Puketitiri is improving thanks to all the hard work. Rissington still sobering with silt covering most of the houses. We moved a few treasures from Pat's Green House up to the Bach, his garden seat and other treasures have found anew home.

It's two weeks since Cyclone Gabrielle ravished our beautiful Hawkes Bay and every day we are reminded of the carnage, loss of lives, livelihoods, homes and our iconic bridges and buildings. The drive to Puketitiri was stunning especially the Rissington Bridge straddling the Mangaone River. This Bridge build in 24/8/1929 has witnessed many tempests but none as forceful and ugly as CG. We are told it will be ages before we can check out our beloved Cottage, however our hearts go out to our farming community still isolated except for helicopters.

Hello Dear Friends of Puketitiri Cottage we are hoping you are all well in these challenging times. It is so uplifting to be part of a community pulling together. Due to all bridges destroyed by Cyclone Gabrielle we are unable to travel to our beloved bush retreat but Farmer Dan, our neighbour checked in last night saying Bach and Bush ok. I know many of you view this humble Bach set in magnificent bush as your spiritual home. It has recharged our batteries in times of emotional need and long may it do so. Tim knows a back route to get there so fingers crossed we will venture to the Bach in near future. In mean time Kia kaha, keep the music and love flowing.

and so excited to find two old style camp stretchers at local Op Shop for lounging under the old beech tree. Nothing could be better.

From the Cottage on a silent morning was the sound of children coming from the Clearing, the most beautiful but under appreciated place if ever there was and so close to Napier. Teachers and parents had bought city children to Balls Clearing Reserve. The children were in awe of the giant 600 year old podocarp trees that had escaped the milling in the 1930s.

The rhodendrons are bursting out with colour at Puketitriri making us feel grateful for the vision of our parents Pat and Catherine. Little did they know at the time that the
Cottage and surrounding bush would become a haven for family and friends in these trying times.
