It was so sad for all of us here at Big Land Lodge to hear this sad news. Our staff had become good friends with Colin over the last three years as he visited us each summer. He was such a huge advocate for our business and for the beautiful Pinware River. His eagerness to return each summer on his own for his hosted trips was a highlight to our season. His passion for fishing and for life was evident in every conversation. We will think of Colin on every walk to the Forks and on every trip to the Shute. Our sincere condolences to his family and also his coworkers and friends. Rest easy and forever Tight Lines.

The Last Cast

It is with unfathomable sadness that we pull you all together to say goodbye to our father, husband, brother, friend and relentless adventurer, Colin McKeown who passed away this morning, Wednesday September 18th, 2024, after a long, courageous battle with Neuroendocrine Cancer.

As we take this day to grieve, our family would be honoured if you spent some time remembering how kind, fun and utterly passionate he was. There are so many stories to share, and this is our call to have you write some of your favourites in the comments, so that we can smile and laugh right along with you.

And if you have time, please take some guided steps to the rivers, where he will meet you. To stand in the ever-flowing currents, to encounter the creatures that change our lives - this is where his greatest teachings lived. A celebration of life itself, for the man who never stopped showing us how precious it truly is.

Cheers to our Colin, and the life he so proudly embraced.

We will be announcing Colin's celebration of life in the next coming days - we will do our best to respond, but we are in need of some time and grace as we say our goodbyes ♥️

We have had some interesting and unique experiences with wildlife over our first five years in Labrador! Moose, Wolves, Black Bear, Porcupine, Lynx, but this has definitely been a first! Great Horned Owls have made this place their home. Mom and Dad always close by watching their young.
