The company was founded by Maria Metzger, M.A.,Speech-Language Pathology; originally as American Accent Academy in Ann Arbor, MI. Upon her move to the Minneapolis/St Paul, MN area , ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD, was formed in 2009 and became an LLC in 2010.

The company's philosophy is that learning best takes place in a warm and supportive environment. The aim is to assist non-native speakers who
already know English vocabulary and grammar but feel that their pronunciation ability impedes their ability to communicate completely and confidently.
