Kendjam is located near the headwaters of the Irirí River in one of the most hidden areas of Brazilian Amazon: the Mekragnoti Indigenous Territory. This environment offers the first multi-variety Amazon fly fishing destination where an angler can target more than ten different species in crystal clear fast waters. The river system runs over a huge granite base, which facilitates wet wading and man

y sight casting opportunities. Untamed Angling discovered this incredible headwaters system and its tributaries, finding that this magnificent clear water system offers an angler’s nirvana for new species on the fly. Anglers can use five to eight weight rods and rely on many of trout/steelhead/salmon water reading skills and techniques to catch numerous jungle species from peacock pass to payara, pacu, wolfish and many more! Kendjam is a remote and small indigenous community (15 Kayapo families live in Kendjam) right in the middle of most preserved Kayapo land and is located at the epicenter of the Kayapó Indigenous Nation: the Mekragnoti Indigenous Territory. Only 700 Indians live in this enormous area, creating one of the most isolated portions of tropical jungle on earth. Kendjam is located 550 miles southeast from Manaus and a plane will land on the airstrip right in the Kendjam Indian Community. The Iriri River headwaters system inside the Mekragnoti Indigenous Territory (more than 700kms), never fished before by westerners. The Iriri River begins its journey inside the jungle at the border of Mato Grosso and Para states and runs into the northeast side of the Brazilian Amazon for more than 1300kms. It’s a tributary of the mystic Xingu River.

FISHING REPORT WEEK 11

This week, Kendjam played host to an extraordinary group—Science on the Fly. These dedicated anglers are not just chasing fish; they’re committed to contributing to science and the preservation of rivers worldwide. Founded in 2019 as a project between the Woodwell Climate Research Center and Fishpond, Science on the Fly strategically engages the passionate fly fishing community to serve as community scientists, collecting monthly river data and observations.

If you haven’t yet encountered the remarkable work of Science on the Fly, you owe it to yourself to dive into their world at scienceonthefly.org. Their efforts this week went beyond the thrill of the catch—they joined forces with our guides and the Kayapo community to collect vital water samples. Together, we are crafting a legacy of conservation that will echo through time.

The low water levels this week provided an angler’s dream—a bounty of dry fly action. The elusive pacu and matrinxã rose eagerly to the surface, offering the kind of thrilling, visual strikes that fly anglers live for. Peacock bass, too, made their presence known, striking with the ferocity and flair that these waters are famous for. The result? Another week of exceptional fishing in this hidden gem of the Amazon.

FISHING REPORT WEEK 10

This week’s highlights are the kind that make stories to be told around campfires for years to come. First and foremost, the young anglers, Lolla and Tilly, stole the show, catching a variety of species with a skill and enthusiasm that left everyone impressed. Kendjam has once again proven to be an ideal destination for families, where both young and old can create memories that will last a lifetime.

Our seasoned friend Bob delivered a masterclass in jungle fishing, demonstrating his expertise by landing some truly magnificent fish, reminding us all of the magic that lies beneath these waters.

And then, as if the week could get any better, our guests were treated to a rare and breathtaking encounter—a jaguar sighting. Such moments are rare and fleeting, yet they remain etched in memory, a reminder of the untamed beauty of this place.

As the season progresses, the opportunities dwindle—2025 is filling up fast. Don’t miss your chance to experience the adventure of a lifetime. Who knows, the jaguar might just be waiting to say hello.

As we dive into Week 9, it’s hard to believe how swiftly time has flown. Perhaps that’s the magic of Kendjam, where every moment is an unforgettable experience.

This week, we welcomed a blend of familiar faces and new adventurers, turning strangers into friends and friends into legends.

Ale and Diego, veterans of these waters, returned for their third journey, each casting their lines with the finesse that only experience brings. And then there was Will, bringing his saltwater swagger to the jungle, landing a Payara that left us all in awe—seriously, Will, a Payara in these water levels? Impressive.
