Looking back on the beginning of September where Kings’ Legend was competing in the Swan Cup 2022 🌊
Two weeks full of prepping, training and racing with an amazing enthusiastic hard working crew, consisting of; the owner, the previous owner Gijs as trainer, eleven Austrian guest and the organisers Mattias (also as trainer) and Tinka 🔥 We managed to keep up with the other S&S and felt proud to be one of the three Swan 65 sloop competing in the race ✨

A clean bilge tells you more than a thousands words - And so a lot of pride goes into the details that nobody ever sees on Kings’ Legend!
All bilges received a make over after replacing the keelson last winter - a stainless beam of 3,5m long and more than 400kilos of weight. The keelson is the heart and core of the ship and connects keel and hull structure and spreads the load of the mast evenly. A so called open heart surgery on a 45 y/o classic lady to replace the original rusty one made of mild steel.
These pictures show the floor storage in the fwd cabins. The place where all tools and boatbuilding materials are stored - equipped to take on most jobs without external assistance. Good preparation gets you halfway!
Finally!!! A happy, excited crew of three got to sail from our beloved Palermo to our winter berth in Malta ✨

After a year of hard work, massive refit, an adventurous delivery from the UK to Greece, beautiful sunny days, the and an ending in Palermo. We could say that 2021 was a year full of surprises and fun 🤩
We’re thankful for all the people that supported us, all the new friends we made and followed our story 🌊
We hope that 2022 will be a year where we can develop ourselves even further; making more amazing friends, spreading our story and sail as much as we can ⛵️

After a month on the hard, a month of challenging logistics and technical challenges, the rudder is finally fixed. The boat and the crew are more than ready for a nice trip to Malta with a perfect weather window.
We can feel the finish line, but the unexpected should have been expected, and yet another challenge is thrown our way. A little mistake and the travel hoists damages the the forestay. So now we are in the water, but still on mandatory docklines in Palermo. Removed the forestay for inspection of the rod and replacement of two foils.
Despite the setback we manage to keep spirits up and work alongside the marina staff. Going with the flow, two steps forward one step back.

The Kings' Legend started the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2021 with great people, fun, heavy seas, sun and lots of salt water 💦 Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the finish because of rudder problems... But we made it safe to Palermo, where we had a lovely time together with the team in our race clothes ;) An adventure we will never forget ⛵️

It is hard to believe but the moment has come, after 21 years we have sold Kings’ Legend.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all. We have enjoyed 21 wonderful years with you, and thanks to you. Kings Legend will return to England, where it all started for her. As of today she has to a great new owner whom we trust will take good care of her.

Overal horizon is een boek met veel verhalen. Uiteraard is het een reisverhaal over een prachtige zeilreis langs de mooiste plekken op deze aarde op het legendarische schip Kings Legend. Maar daarnaast, of misschien wel vooral, is het een verhaal over hoe je in het leven staat, hoe je omgaat met tegenslagen en moeilijkheden die op je pad komen zoals rouw en verlies en hoe hoog je de lat voor jezelf legt. En wat er gebeurt als je uit de waan van de dag stapt en leeft in het moment.

Rolex Middle Sea Race starts October 20. We are on our way now. Weather is not as nice now as it was during Les Voiles. She can handle it. All these miles around the world proved her Grit :)
And off she goes, racing in a beautiful sunlight.
