CARNIVAL OF VENICE
27 TH Jan - 13th february 2018
The Venice Carnival is a century old tradition dating back to 1162 to celebrate the victory of the Venice Republic against the Patriarch of Aquileia, Ulrico di Treven and is a one of a kind event that attracts visitors from all over the world.
During the Carnival, Venice's beauty and ambience go up a notch, and it becomes even more spellbinding.
Masks have always been an important feature of the Venetian Carnival. Venetian masks can be made of leather, porcelain or using the original glass technique. The original masks were rather simple in design, decoration, and often had a symbolic and practical function. Nowadays, most Italian masks are made with the application of gesso and gold leaf and are hand-painted using natural feathers and gems to decorate.
The Venice Carnival Festival takes place mainly in St Mark’s Square and it’s an extraordinary time dedicated to enjoyment involving thousands of tourists and Venetians themselves.
