Situated in the heart of Lhasa city, Potala Palace was constructed for Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty, who married into Tibet by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the seventh century. Over the years, it has become a prominent landmark and a symbol of Tibet.
This magnificent palace comprises 999 houses, nestled on the Red Hill alongside the flowing Lhasa River, at an impressive elevation of over 3,700 metres. This magnificent hillside palace spans an impressive 410,000 square metres, boasting a construction area of 130,000 square metres.
