Nothing quite prepares you for the emotions and feelings of Motherhood. Attempting to put in into words is nearly impossible! From my personal experiences motherhood is rewarding, joyous, happy, exhilarating, intense, overwhelming, ever-changing, challenging, and at times, exhausting. Motherhood is a love affair that never ends! Having children often times awakens within us a new selfless outlook

and personality shift. As mothers we have an innate instinct to put our children first and above all else. My true calling to becoming a maternity caregiver came to me at the age of 19 during my OB clinical rotation in nursing school. I definitely was not prepared for witnessing my first birth! In fact, I actually fainted! I became enthralled with the miracle of birth. During nursing school, I wasn’t able to do many tasks other than observe and offer comfort measures for the laboring moms. I found that I loved doing that! It gave me great satisfaction helping a mom during her labor and birth experience. The satisfaction that I get from helping moms is one of the reasons that I love being a doula today! I believe that educating yourself and your partner is one of the most valuable things that you can do to prepare for your baby’s birth. Knowing what to expect and sometimes not to expect, will help to empower you to have the birthing experience that you and your partner dream of! With knowledge, comes decreased anxiety and stress which is very beneficial for you, your partner and your baby! Based on my years of experience you would think that I’ve “seen it all” but in fact, I learn something new with each birthing experience. Each and every woman is unique! Each and every labor is unique! I think that every woman and her partner have a personal dream of the perfect labor and birth of their miracle of life! My goal as a doula is to support, advocate for, and empower couples, so that they may have the birthing experience that they dream of!
