Cwm Idwal s an incredible place .It is here where Darwin identified the remains of an icefall overlooking Nant Ffrancon near Llyn Ogwen. He described two boulders in particular which are now known as Darwin’s boulders. It was an
amazing feelibg to stand where he once stood. Cwm Idwal

In Wales Castles are just everywhere!!! There are over 600, four have UNESCO World Heritage Status and the tower at Caerphilly out leans the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The leaning tower at Caerphilly Castle has a lean of around 10°, compared to the 4° lean of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Both towers lean due to ground subsidence, however, we know that Caerphilly Castle’s problems came later in life, likely due to the water defences, where Pisa was built on ground that is too soft from the outset.

After restoration work, the leaning tower is now supported by the 6m tall statue of the 4th Marquis of Bute which prevents it from falling over.

A walk around Dorothea quarry , a former slate quarry nicknamed the Angkor Wat of Wales.

Dorothea lies in the Nantle Valley, part of the Unesco world heritage site of Slate Landscape of North Wales .

Originally called Cloddfa Turner , later renamed as Dorothea after Garnons' wife. who owned the land in the 19th century. At its height it produced 17,442 tons of slate. The quarry s closed in 1970, the village was abandoned and and vegetation grew over the ruins of the abandoned buildings, It is impressive to see the impact of the quarry had on the landscape and how nature is taking over

Where to Visit if you are a Dylan Thomas fan ?

In a romantic setting , on a cliff overlooking the glorious, 'heron priested' Taff Estuary is the Boathouse, home of Dylan Thomas for the last four years of his life.

Just above the house once a wooden garage used to house Laugharne’s first motor car you can find Dylan's writing shed where he wrote many of his major pieces of work including Under Milk Wood.

He passed away 70 years ago ,his body was returned to Wales, he is buried in a small cemetery in Laugharne. Earlier this year we visited his grave with a. few friends and colleagueA
