A SLICE OF ARANUI LIFE … 💛
“The name Te Henua Enata doesn’t just mean the Land of Men. It also signifies Man and Land, and Land and Man. Here, there’s a bond of language, respect, art, connecting with the environment. This connection, learned from our ancestors, holds significance. It enables us to perceive and pass on to a new generation this bond with the Earth and the Sea.”

HOW TAHITI TRANSFOMED GAUGUIN’S ART🎨
In Hiva Oa, visit the Paul Gauguin Museum and his “house of pleasure”…
The museum presents a lasting showcase of the paintings by the renowned artist Paul Gauguin, featuring replicas of his original works. Adjacent to the museum hall is a reconstructed "pleasure house," the residence of the artist. The main exhibition wall of this house is adorned with intricately carved wooden panels, faithfully reproducing Paul Gauguin's original creations.
Gauguin painted some of his most beautiful pieces in Hiva Oa.
Let the islands inspire you the way it did for artists, writers, adventurers. 🏝️

What are you doing this Christmas?
ONE ISLAND AT A TIME… MANGAREVA…
The remote Gambier Islands lie just a little more than 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometres) southeast of Tahiti. Polynesian mythology tells of Mangareva being lifted from the ocean floor by the demi-god Maui.
The mountains of Mangareva rise over the surrounding islands and the luminous lagoon like a great cathedral. The island is the centre for Catholicism in Polynesia, with the people of Mangareva having a very traditional Polynesian lifestyle.
Mangareva is the largest island in the Gambier and its main village, Rikitea, is the chief town of the archipelago. The island has a large lagoon with striking blue and green hues and is also famous for its Tahitian black pearls, which are cultivated in the pristine waters around the island.
Here is a glimpse for you 🌅

ONE ISLAND AT A TIME… MAKATEA… ⛰️
Situated 210 kilometers northeast of Tahiti, Makatea exudes a distinctive “at the edge of the world” ambiance. Accessible only by sea, it emerges from the vast ocean like a fortress. Discovering Makatea from the deck of the Aranui 5 is a revelation.
Following a significant population exodus in the 20th century, this raised atoll now boasts a mere 94 devoted inhabitants who remain steadfastly tied to the island they hold dear, preserving its unique narrative.
This journey began in the late 19th century when substantial phosphate deposits were unearthed on the atoll, giving rise to Makatea’s unparalleled industrial legacy in Polynesia.
Previously forgotten by the modern world, the island underwent a transformation, complete with schools, a cinema, religious centers, and various industrial facilities. Among its remarkable installations was a 100-meter-long metal pier and even a railway—testaments, to this day, to the island’s singular history.
