It's making memories come alive; whether it be an event as large as a wedding or as small as a Girl's Night In. It's for special occasions, favors, gifts, tokens of appreciation, holidays, and get-togethers. It's for the “something special” and the “something fun”. It’s saying, “thank you”, like you mean it, or “I love you, you’re the only for me”. Pop & Bessie's was founded on the principles of t
wo influential people who have gone on, but whose memories will last forever. The Story Behind Pop & Bessie’s...
Ever since I was a little girl, I could always find my grandfather, Pop, and my great-grandmother, Bessie, in the kitchen. Their love of cooking and baking propelled me to also find a place for it in my heart and in my kitchen. Bessie, who we also called Nan, a beautiful strong woman, would always allow me, as a child, to step outside the confines of my Easy-Bake-Oven and bake cakes in the toaster oven. I would mix together concoctions that she would oh-so-willingly taste and pretend to enjoy, "Ashley, just put a little more sugar in this next time", she would say with a smile. Somehow what would taste like way too much baking powder, salt and butter, to the average person, tasted like “it just needed a little more sugar” to Nan. You could always find Nan creating a menu for her next dinner party and she always encouraged me to save little knick-knacks and trinkets for when guests come over. Pop would make pies and cakes and combine ingredients that one would never think of. He was a creative dynamo who worked hard and loved his family beyond measure. He was never shy in the kitchen and I would always be right beside him to do all of the taste testing. As I grew older and Pop's combinations caused my inhibitions to get the best of me, he would say, "Smurf (which he nicknamed me upon birth), I remember when you were more adventurous and you would try anything”, while making something else for me to try. Pies were his favorite dessert...cherry pies to be exact. He claimed to dislike chocolate, but it would always disappear when put in front of him. In 2008, at 71, we lost Pop to Multiple Myeloma, a type of blood cancer, and Bessie passed away at 105 in 2014. This business is for Grandpa and Nan...“Pop & Bessie”, because as Bessie always said, “invite them over and let’s have a party”.
