About a month ago we took our maiden voyage in our Suncruiser. We went about 40 minutes away to the Rancho Seco Recreation Area. I failed in my duties to write a critique of the facilities, and now I am making up for lost ground. I plan to write something about every place we visit, and I promise not to let them lag in the future. Not only am I going to write about the good and the not so good, I am also going to give highlights on my accessibility “adventures”.

We arrived at our space mid Saturday afternoon. We found the accommodations clean, and well kept. Our site was not an ADA site, but worked just fine. It was covered in gravel (large aggregate). It had a fire pit, a picnic table, and a couple of trees that would not offer much shade. As it was March we were not worried about the heat anyway. My daughter, Katy Simpson, and her husband, William Simpson, came for the afternoon and dinner. And, oh yeah, they brought our grandson “Boo”.

Rancho Seco has several RV camping spots of all sizes. They also had plenty of areas for tent camping. It has a good size lake that is stocked regularly. There was also ample picnic areas for those that want to make it a day trip. There were several anglers trying their luck. Come stocked and prepared as there is not a store at the facility.

As for accessibility, I found it to my liking. Though the area is generally flat, there are some ups and downs around the lake. Nothing that I could not maneuver in my manual chair. We had one small bathroom near our coach that was wheelchair accessible. There was also a large bathroom area not far away with accessible showers and sinks. Most of the paths were paved which made getting around pretty easy. They do have at least one ADA RV site that we saw. It was paved in lieu of having the gravel, which would be a plus, though in my case not necessary.

Next stop is at my cousin’s ranch. Can not wait to write about those accommodations :+}…

Happy trails until next time….
