Those amazing northern lights may be visible tonight (Thursday night) pretty deep down into the Midwest, including parts of central Illinois.
That red line indicates the southern extent of where the Aurora Borealis might be visible on the northern horizon.
With an unobstructed view toward the north, a person can see aurora even when it is 600 miles further north. The strongest lights tend to appear between 9pm and 2am, though the best sightings often occur between 11pm and midnight.
