In today’s rapidly expanding technological age, technology is infiltrating almost every aspect of our busy lives. The work place is an area where technology can and does help. Very few people today do not have a smart phone. The hospital setting is especially rich with the latest gadgets; our breed craves the latest technological toys. We are never far away from our device that is keeping us connected or disconnected depending on your point of view. Fundamentally we are walking around with a super computer in our pocket what is lacking is the programming to make the most of our super computer.
Madical tools is a startup focusing on creating apps that make the life of medical professionals a little bit easier. Our latest instalment is the “Congenital Cardiac Hemodynamic Calculator” CCHC is designed for cardiologists cath lab techs and nurses who are working in the congenital/pediatric cardiac cath lab. The design team on the CCHC has considerable experience working in the cath lab treating and diagnosing congenital heart disease.
Complex congenital heart diseases are often associated with complex alterations in hemodynamics.
Understanding these key hemodynamic changes is critical to making management decisions including
surgery and postoperative management. The congenital cardiac hemodynamic calculator can quickly
and easily calculate the extent of these hemodynamic changes. Many of the calculations used in the
evaluation of hemodynamic abnormalities are relatively simple and can be performed rapidly with a
hand held calculator or (for the mentally agile) “in the head”. Others are more complex and require a
more time consuming process of analysis of the recorded data, this is where the CCH calculator can
assist not only the congenital cardiologist but the nurses and cath lab techs also.
The CCH calculator can be loaded on to your smart phone or tablet is available in both IOS and android.
The app calculates
• Pulmonary blood flow
• Systemic blood flow
• Effective pulmonary blood flow
• Pulmonary vascular resistance
• Systemic vascular resistance
• Qp-Qs ratio
• Determines shunt direction.
•
As the readings are collected the in the lab simply enter them in the heart screen and the app does the rest
