1980-1990 Islanders Maldives was conceived as a travel agency in the Republic of Maldives. TOURISM Managed Embudhu Finolhu Island Resort, now Taj Exotica Resort & Spa. Embudhu Finolhu Island was among the first resorts in Maldives to build over water rooms. INDUSTRIAL Established Far Horizon Pvt Ltd, to import timber and plywood to the Maldives. 1990-2000 LUXURY TRAVEL & RETAIL Islanders Maldives entered travel retail business by successfully winning bid license to operate duty free shop at Male’ International Airport. The duty free business developed a portfolio of over 60 luxury brands over the course of 1990’s which includes Cartier, Chopard, Bvlgari, Swatch Group, Tag Heuer for which Islanders held exclusive distributorship in the Maldives. INDUSTRIAL By end of 1990’s Far Horizon’s trademark brand “Timberstores Warehouses & Mills” was one of the top 3 importers of timber and plywood to the country. Also in the 1990’s Far Horizon expanded its timber business to Sri Lanka by establishing Islanders Lanka Pvt Ltd. 2000-2010 LUXURY TRAVEL & RETAIL EXPANSION Islanders successfully won two additional duty free shops with exclusive rights to sell electronics, fashion accessories and apparels. Retail portfolio expanded to include brands such as United Colors of Benetton, Giordano, Luxottica and Safilo Group sunglass brands, Sony and Suunto. Opened the first lifestyle department store, EVINCE, in the capital city Male’ on 9th May 2003. The company expanded its Duty Free operations to Sri Lanka International Airport and in Seychelles. INDUSTRIAL BUSINESS EXPANSION Appointed as the exclusive distributorship for Grundfos Pumps in the Maldives. The most widely used water distribution pump in resort industry in Maldives. SERVICES Ceylinco Insurance Islanders entered into a partnership with Ceylinco Insurance to establish the first private sector company to commence insurance business in the Maldives. Focus Infocom The company invested in Raajje Online (ROL), the country’s only private sector Internet Service Provider. Nokia Established Dhivehicom Pvt Ltd and appointed as the exclusive distributorship for Nokia. REAL ESTATE Established Cubique Sdn Bhd and commenced investments in Real Estate in Malaysia, maintaining a portfolio of luxury apartments in developments of YTL Group and Low Yat Group. Cubique Sdn Bhd provides consultancy to Maldivian and Sri Lankan investors coming into Malaysia. Islanders Lanka – developed a Luxurious Geoffrey Bawa inspired mansion in Colombo, now EIGHT the Residence. Islanders Maldives – acquired and developed 3 apartment buildings in the capital of Male’ and developed downtown hotel The Park House. TOURISM One of the first companies to win license to operate picnic islands in the Maldives and invested in development of Kunaavashi Picnic Island in Vaavu Atoll. Islanders acquired Bolero, an 80 feet cabin safari boat to cruise the waters of Maldives. Islanders created EIGHT the Residence, a luxury boutique residence in Colombo, Sri Lanka. EDUCATION Islanders was awarded lease to operate the first International School in Maldives. The company joined forces with Kangaroo Kids Education Limited, an Australian education franchise to open a 600 student capacity school in 2008. By 2010, the education business grew to include 2 additional pre-schools in Male’ and commencement of developing a school in Addu Atoll. The company launched Wallaby Institute, and education business offering higher secondary education, with all comprising over 1100 students. 2010 onwards BEVERAGES Islanders acquired distributorship for world renowned Fashion TV’s beverage range “F Beverages”. The launch of F88 Luxury Energy Drink is set for 8.8.2011, to be followed by F Vodka and F Acai Cranberry.
