Even in December and January, you can find blooming desert rose succulents on the island of Socotra!

Desert rose (Adenium obesum socotranum)

An endemic succulent, also called impala lily. Its trunk is said to remind baobab but also an old woman’s behind. It reaches 3 metres in height and is best characterised by beautiful white and red flower, which grows on the swollen trunk. The tree adapted itself to the tropical climate by creating a reservoir of water in its trunk. During the dry season, the tree sheds its leaves and only the flowers remain.

Socotra is an island in the Arabian Sea, about 230 km east of Cape Guardafui in the Horn of Africa and 350 km south of the Arabian Peninsula. It belongs to the Republic of Yemen, within which it forms the province of the same name including the surrounding smaller islands and reefs, collectively called the "Sokotra Archipelago"
Socotra is globally important for biodiversity conservation due to its exceptionally rich and diverse flora and fauna.
It is home to 825 plant species, of which 308 (37%) are endemic.
These species are found nowhere else on Earth.
UNESCO designated Socotra a World Heritage Site in 2008.
No wonder why Socotra is often called the "Galapagos of the Indian Ocean".
On the island of Socotra, this is all "strangely" different:
- beaches, trees, fauna, rock formations, people, etc...

allow us to introduce our brand new and first private camp in Socotra, located on the south coast called Noget right on the most beautiful beach of Aomak.
4 months of toil, sweat and rush to get everything done for the new season 2023/2024.
We succeeded and we are proud of our first joint project, which has no parallels in Socotra.
This is a private place intended only and exclusively for our guests Socotra Exclusive Tours & Socotra_cz
We do not rent space to any other companies.
Camp with an area of 2500m2 a few steps from the sea and according to local conditions with above-standard social facilities. "European" style toilets and showers.

The atmosphere in the Fermhin forest, home to the largest ends of the Dragon's Blood/ Draceana Cinnabari trees on the island of Socotra, is indescribable. Day or night it is possible to find new and new compositions.
Dragonblood trees with dense crowns look like gigantic mushrooms, grow very slowly, and can reach up to 650 years old.
It belongs to the oldest ecosystems on earth.
This tree grows naturally only on this island, it is an endemic species. They are most often found in the middle and higher plateaus of the island.
Over time and its slow growth, this monocot turns into a very dense umbrella-shaped crown, covered with leaves that grow only at the ends of young branches. The tree thus creates a shadow that protects its trunk and lower part.
This tree is able to grow in dry locations, it can also draw the necessary water from the fog, so it is ingeniously adapted to the inhospitable conditions on the unique island of Socotra.

In November, Socotra is always beautifully green, after the monsoon season, nature awakens to new life. This period is very short, but all the more intense... All living things must gain strength for the next dry months🍀
We caught the "golden hour" for photographing desert roses or bottle plants. An interesting endemic succulent is botanically called Adenium Socotranum.
In this period, it does not bloom pink, but the monumental trunks, mostly gray in color, now turn golden to rose gold.

The island of Socotra suffers from increasingly frequent occurrences of extreme hydrological phenomena (floods and droughts), pollution and a lack of water resources, therefore water, as one of the essential substances of life, must be given great attention.
In addition to the unique biodiversity and beautiful nature that the island of Socotra offers, another and most valuable jewel = wadi/Wadi is hidden somewhat in the background in the dry areas of the island.
Wadi are dry riverbeds and valleys created by the erosion of an occasional watercourse, filled with water only after occasional rains. Water flows through them in spurts only after rains or in the wetter period of the year.
The annual rainfall on the island of Socotra is small and distributed throughout the year, which limits the possibilities and is thus the most important commodity for the local population, grazing, cultivation and also the island's fragile socio-geographical sphere.
For the local Bedouin villages, this means the only and often very distant access to "ordinary water."
Locals, especially young boys, use these transparent pools for fun, social contact and also for daily hygiene.
