Lake Mutanda , The scenic Lake of Uganda 🇺🇬

Lake Mutanda popular spot for some R&R after a gorilla trek is a small, freshwater lake in the far southwest of Uganda🇺🇬, 30 minutes drive from Kisoro town and close to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. It is drained by the Rutshuru River, flowing northward to Lake Edward.

With an altitude of 1,800m, it is a great place to hike although it is physically demanding. The hike provides breath-taking views of the three extinct volcanoes which are Mount Muhabura, Mount Sabyinyo, and Mount Gahinga..Lake Mutanda contains 15 small islands one of them being 'Mutanda Island' the biggest Island that is inhabited by a clan called ‘Abagesera’. The Abagesera have built a church on the top of the island, where they welcome local worshippers who attend from the mainland.

Travel to Mutanda island is by a traditional dug-out canoe or a boat. From here, you will be able to view the scenery from a different perspective and meet the locals. To engage with the culture, you can attend community walks, and visit the local church.

Brave adventurers can visit the Punishment Islands where criminals & misfits of the society were taken and dumped as a punishment. Unmarried pregnant girls, the elderly with no one to care for them, criminals such as thieves, and unwanted people from the region would be tied & taken to the islands and left to die there. Others would be killed and dumped at these islands. Caves with skeletal remains are found at the islands. These two islands are feared by the locals & actually no one walks on them because of the belief that they are haunted by the dead.
Even bolder visitors like Judith Heard, Mukiga Traveller, Amos Wekesa can head to Python Island for a chance to see the resident snakes.

A trip to Johannesburg wouldn’t be complete if you missed going to the Johannesburg Zoo. The zoo is famous not only for all the animals that one can find there but much more. They have various exhibits ranging from history to animals and even a farmyard. There is also an amusement park which happens to be one of the biggest in South Africa.

Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania🇹🇿 is the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro has three volcanic cones, Mawenzi, Shira and Kibo. Mawenzi and Shira are extinct but Kibo, the highest peak, is dormant.
