The regulations on the transportation of hazardous substances previously included in the Hazardous Substances Act of 1973 have been revised and are now included in Chapter VIII of the National Road Traffic Act of 1996. These revised regulations covers both bulk and packaged dangerous goods on our roads, bringing in more stringent standards for safeguarding the driver and their vehicle, other road users,
the community and the environment. There is immense necessity for those involved in the transportation of dangerous goods to be made aware of the new legislation in order to comply. Dantran Training & Assessing Services offer a comprehensive training manual that meets the requirement of regulation 280 of the National Traffic Act 93 of 1996. The material is generic to these requirements; however, modules can be developed to meet the requirements of company specific goods and substances transported. The following is incorporated

Courses

The key aspects of the legal changes and the requirements laid down by the National Road Traffic Act of 1996 (Chapter VIII), relevant terms and definitions
The methods and procedures for the safe handling of dangerous goods and substances during the transportation of these goods on public roads in South Africa, exempt quantities, compatibility of substances and placarding
The relevant emergency procedures and protective actions involved thus enhancing the safety awareness of the driver and protection of local environment
The documentation involved in the transportation of dangerous goods
The material complies fully with the South African Qualifications Act as well as the TETA requirements. Dantran offers trainers that are accredited as competent assessors and train according to National Unit Standards. This is complimented by their 30 years experience in the transportation of Dangerous Goods and thus comprehensive understanding of both the Act of 1973 and the new Chapter VIII of the Act
of 1996. Candidates are required to study the work booklet prior to the training, thus familiarising themselves with the material. The competency of the candidates are assessed by the trainers. On completion of this course, trainees will be in a position to apply for their professional driving permit that is in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act, as well as make a contribution to road safety in South Africa. Each candidate will receive a certificate acknowledging their competency in terms of
regulation 280.
