Exciting News!

We’re thrilled to announce that entries are live! After some fine-tuning, we’re excited to share a new category that will run parallel to the MTB race: the gravel bike race! Both events will take place simultaneously, but in different categories, with separate start times for each.

SATURDAY 14 June Stage 1:
MTB Race: 82 KM; ELEV. 1167 M
Gravel Bike Race: 118 KM; ELEV. 967M

SUNDAY 15 June Stage 2:
MTB Race: 90 KM; ELEV. 962 M
Grave Bike Race: 90 KM; ELEV. 877M

A few important notes:
1. Pre-entry is available, and you can pay later. Your entry is secured as soon as you pre-enter.
2. You can purchase your food package either when you enter or at a later date. We’ll provide a cutoff date for purchases soon.
3. Chalets are available for booking for two weeks only on our website. These are the only items that must be booked and prepaid to secure your spot. Chalet bookings cover Friday, June 13th, Saturday, June 14th, and Sunday, June 15th. Chalet availability will be listed by chalet number on the website (refer to the park layout for location). After December 1st, any unbooked chalets will be released back to the park.
4. Race jerseys, massage packages, and bike service packages are available on the online shop as well.

In addition, 10% of our entry fees will be donated to the Red ‘n Plaas, Red ‘n Gemeenskap initiative. Also, don’t forget about our Early Bird special, where you can get 30% off your entry fee until February 28!

Prize giving will take place just before dinner on Sunday evening.

Get ready for an amazing experience as we introduce changes to the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race. The event continues under the leadership of two familiar faces from our previous team: the dynamic father-daughter duo, Riaan Strauss & Laetitia Grobbelaar, who are dedicated to elevating this race.

We’re transitioning to a 2-day stage race, offering a fresh twist on the adventure you know and love. Mark your calendars for June 14 & 15, 2025!

Stages 1 and 2 will remain the same as the race of 2023 to challenge and thrill you, though they may be tweaked for safety and the best possible race conditions.

Registration and Accommodation:

1. Pre-entry will be available soon, allowing you to pre-enter in advance with a later payment date. Remember, there will be a cut-off date for payments, so keep an eye out for updates.
2. You will be able book accommodation through our online store. Chalet availability and capacity will be clearly listed. Once booked and paid for, your chalet will appear as “sold out” on the online store.

We’re busy behind the scenes, but rest assured, we’re preparing for an unforgettable race. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the breathtaking trails of Augrabies National Park!

Dear Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race Participants and Supporters,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race for the year 2024. Despite our best efforts and the enthusiasm from the cycling community, we have faced the unfortunate reality of too few entries to proceed with the event.

This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment it may cause among our participants and supporters. Organizing the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race is a labor of love, and we have explored various avenues to ensure the event’s success. Unfortunately, the lack of a sufficient number of entries has made it financially untenable to proceed.

As a privately hosted event, we must prioritize the financial viability and sustainability of the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race. The decision to cancel is based on the need to mitigate the risks associated with insufficient participation. While we deeply regret having to make this announcement, we believe it is in the best interest of all involved.

We want to assure you that we are actively exploring alternative options and strategies to ensure the future success of the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race. We remain committed to providing a premier mountain biking experience in the years to come, and we appreciate your understanding and continued support.

We understand the time, dedication, and excitement invested by participants in preparing for the event, and we share in your disappointment. To those who have already registered, we will be reaching out shortly to discuss refund processes and any additional details.

Why only 300 entries? Because we fell in love with the Augrabies National Park and will do everything in our power to keep our footprint as small as possible. Each year we are giving only 300 riders the opportunity to experience this spectacular arid piece of land. The wildlife in Augrabies Falls National Park will give you something to talk about around the fire each night. Spotting a giraffe is common during the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race The giraffes found in Augrabies are lighter in colour than those found in the regions of the east, as a counter measure for the extreme heat. One of the most often seen antelope is the klipspringer, which are normally seen in pairs. Other antelope found in the park are steenbok, springbok, gemsbok, kudu and eland. Predators in Augrabies come in the form of leopard, black backed jackals, caracal, the bat eared fox, and the African wild cat, and the elusive leopard. Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra (Equus Hartmannae) is also present in the park and due to their endangered status are closely monitored by the park rangers. A total of 49 mammal species, including a number of rodent species, have been recorded. Not even mentioning the extensive list of birds one might see. A spectacular, but challenging day on the bike! Stage 2 Overall winner CP Van Wyk is still on the defend of the Trans Augrabies MTB Stage Race Title with Pieter Korkie on his heels with an unfortunate crash. Regis Maniora maintained his 3rd position! Handicap winner is the 60+ Year Old female Colleen Jacobs followed by CP Van Wyk and then Pieter Korkie. Today our riders got to explore the Moonrock, Oranjekom, and the rest of the spectacular Augrabies Falls National Park! The riders was tested with a long day in the saddle.
