Wildlife Wednesday!

Terrapins are small to medium-sized turtles belonging to the family Emydidae. They are semi-aquatic, living in freshwater and brackish environments. There are over 70 species of terrapins and they are found in rivers, lakes, wetlands and coastal areas.

Interesting Terrapin Facts:

🐢 Terrapins can survive out of water for extended periods.
🐢They can swim quickly, up to 15 miles per hour (24 km/h).
🐢Some species have specialized webbed feet for swimming.
🐢Terrapins are known for their ability to hibernate during winter.

Who we are.

Our African Footprints are bespoke safari designers based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Founded by the husband and wife team of Brett and Dominique Roux, Our African Footprints was born from a life long passion for Africas wilderness eden's. Having travelled through Africa from a young age, conservation, tracking and photography have always been a great love of Bretts. After 25 years of fine tuning his bush and photographic skills Brett’s dream is to share his deep connection with nature with the rest of the world. Him and Dominique instantly connected over Africa and its wild places when the met in 2014 and subsequently got engaged and married in the magical Phinda Sand Forest. They are a modern day bush couple that added to their family in 2017 with the birth of their son Roan, who is often taken along on their many bush adventures. Together they bring the experience gained from working in the corporate world and then the hospitality sector to their experiences. Both Brett and Domi are creatives at heart and its their unique synergy, experience and imagination that enables them to create life changing travel into Africa.
