On Sunday Crosby from Sunfire Solutions came to demonstrate to UPSHILL Barrydale the power of a Parabolic Solar Cooker We need to get more Solar Cookers to poor communities to Cook using the Sun 🌞 We have so much of it here !😀

Thank You Again for our Speakers who gave amazing presentations on Friday evening. We were so privileged to have them give up their time to come all the way here from Groot Fadersboss, Swellendam, and Montagu as well as Barrydale to talk to us about some very inspiring projects going forward this year in Barrydale , Aileen from Cape Nature about alien clearing and planting indigenous trees, Johan Van Niekerk our Solid Waist manager on the Circular Green Economy, Gordon on Community Gardens and composting, Peter Takelo on the food growing projects at the Gwarrie Camp and on Khoi Tourism and Marietta Mundey from Montagu helping us set up our Tourism center. , Here is her talk on the evening and i shall try get the other talks out as well for those who missed this amazingly inspiring evening. i have arranged to have some of the people that i am working with to come together and have an evening talk at the Karoo Art Hotel on Friday evening, We are taking on important issues that we as a small country community are facing, like unemployment, lack of skills development, food security, tourism, environmental issues and recycling, We as a small community can work on sorting out these issues and make a difference if we work together but first we need to come together and talk about it all and try get on the same page, We can not solve all the problems we going to face in the future but if we recognize what they are we can start working towards the solutions and find all those in the community with the skills we need to tackle the problems and work together to sort them out. Please come join us on Friday evening at 7 pm at the Balanti Hall ( Please Use the Side entrance from the road to enter the Building as there is a function in the courtyard) please have dinner before you arrive as there will not be any staff available and no snacks and tea ,
You can order at the food and drinks at the bar before hand. There will be a 15 min break after the first half of 45 min.
It Starts at 7 pm till around 9 pm

I have just had an amazingly insightful meeting with Mareletta Mundey from Montagu-Aston Tourism, She came all the way to meet up at Joubert Tradouw Winefarm for a two-hour chat on how to run a Tourism Office. Mareletta has been managing the Montagu Tourism Office for 16 Years and they have been the best-performing Tourism Office in the Winelands District outperforming places like Franshoek and Stellenbosh! She shall be mentoring me on this journey of Managing and running the Barrydale Tourism Office, i am so lucky to have her in Montagu our neighboring town on the R62 and we shall be working closely to bring more tourism and events to the Small Karoo over the winter months,

Thank You Sean Riley for your gift of 7 spekboom plants for the Tourist Information Garden. They will be part of an education of tourists and school kids on the vast amount of amazing succulents found in this valley and their benefit to our planet.

I am researching interesting new ways of Marketing Barrydale and came upon this Game that has been created on the Roblox Platform, Its a virtual reality game that is based around a Karoo Town where you need to do certain adventures that are based around actual things to do in the village of Prins Albert so its giving kids and adults a chance to learn about a town and interact with what their is to do there before they arrive I want to see if they can build one for our town of Barrydale as well ?

Carol who owns The MUD restaurant built the building from Mud bricks hence the name Mud. The Restaurant is well known for its all day Breakfasts and a favorite gathering place for locals in the morning for a catch-up .cofee with a lovely view over the Valley,
The shop inside sells handmade products from the "Hand Weavers " a local business that has provided many jobs through a skills development program, The Farm Deli and the Analog Art Gallery are on either side of the Mud and are great to visit to.

Thomas and Hayley from the Karoo Daisy have turned an old Church building into a Lovely Restaurant and venue for Markets and events.The venue is perfectly situated beside an open field ( jyksky courts !) where markets and events can be held, There is an open Market every last Sunday of the Month. They have a shop that sells home made arts and crafts made in Barrydale,

Makers Brew run by Ryno a master Craft Bear brewer and makes Arguably the best Pizzas in Barrydale. Ryno has Curry Night once a month in conjunction with Loydes Curry House just outside Barrydale, Makers has Live music in summer out on the stoep with a lovely view over the Valley The Venue can be used for Functions and events like book launches ,

Derek at the Country Pumpkin has been running his Restaurant here for over 20 years and is the longest-standing eatery on the R62 in Barrydale , The Pumpkin make great Home made Pies and Lunches especially the Sunday Roast that they renowned for ,Often on the weekends there is live music and a festive turnout from the locals
